Staten Island 5, Brooklyn 0

from press release

The Cyclones were beaten by a score of 5-0 on Saturday night, losing to the Yankees in front of a crowd of 8,757. The loss is only the second at home for Brooklyn this season and places them a half-game out of first place in the McNamara Division for the first time this year.

RHP Yohan Almonte (pictured, by George Napolitano) started his third game of the 2010 season, pitching 5.2 strong innings in which he surrendered two runs (one earned) on five hits, while striking out four and walking two. LHP Nelson Pereira took the mound in the sixth inning and allowed a run on three hits while striking out two over two-thirds of an inning. RHP Ryan Fraser followed with 1.2 scoreless frames, striking out three, before RHP Brian Needham came on in the ninth inning, and allowed two more runs on two hits.

The Cyclones offense was held in check all night, tallying just five hits while striking out 13 times. 1B Jeff Flagg was the only Cyclone to register a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double. 2B J.B. Brown, 3B James Shroeder, and C Taylor Freeman had the Cyclones' only other hits in the game. CF Darrell Ceciliani had his eight-game hitting streak snapped, but did find himself on base once with a walk, and stole second. DH Joe Bonfe finished the game without recording a hit but did reach base twice thanks to two walks bringing his season total to a team leading 11.
