TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the second game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). The Herd struck first in the set with a 4-1 victory over the IronPigs last night. Buffalo now has a 30-21 record at Coca-Cola Field this season. This eight-game homestand will continue with four games against Columbus, August 5-8.
vs. IRONPIGS: The Bisons are 5-4 against the IronPigs this year. Prior to this series, the teams split four-game sets in Lehigh Valley, May 22-25, and in Buffalo, June 12-15. Dating back to 2009, the Bisons have now won six of their last eight games against the IronPigs at Coca-Cola Field.
RHP FERNANDO NIEVE makes his 2010 Bisons debut today after being outrighted by the Mets on Wednesday. Nieve was 2-4 with a 6.00ERA with the Mets while working 39 of 40 appearances out of the bullpen. Last season, Nieve went 3-0 in four starts with the Bisons, May 18 - June 5. Nieve delivered a quality start in all four games with the Herd, with 23 strikeouts and only 18 hits allowed in 24.1 innings of work.
INF NICK EVANS had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored in last night’s victory. The slugger joined the Bisons on Friday in Toledo after a great season at Double-A Binghamton. With the B-Mets, Evans ranked in the Eastern League Top-5 in doubles (30), home runs (17) and extra-base hits (47) to go along with a .294 average in 88 games.
INF JUSTIN TURNER and OF LUCAS DUDA were two of the top hitters in the International League in July. Turner hit .380 (30-79) during the month, the second-best average in the IL. He’ll enter August on an eight-game hit streak (.467, 14-30). Duda led the league with 19 extra-base hits (nine home runs) and was third with a .697 slugging percentage in July.
RHP SEAN GREEN made his first MLB rehab appearance with the Bisons last night, allowing a run on two hits in one inning of work. INF ANDY GREEN has been activated off the disabled list today. Green has averaged .277 (41-148) with three homers and 19RBI in 56 games this season.
