Oliver Perez is Staying:
link - The Mets will not attempt to send Oliver Perez to the minors. "That's done," a source told the New York Daily News on Monday. "He's not going to agree to go down." Perez has allowed seven hits, four walks and five earned runs since returning from the disabled list in late July. The Mets are not expected to release him, either, and will simply keep him active and use him only in mop-up situations. Brutal circumstances.
Jeremy Hermida:
link - Over the weekend, the Boston Red Sox designated Jeremy Hermida for assignment. The move came less than eight months after the red Sox traded Jose Alvarez and Hunter Jones to the Marlins for the non-tender candidate and just years after Hermida seemingly broke out. Oh yes, that 2007 season when the 23-year-old Hermida hit .296/.369/.501 feels like forever ago. That season never became the ordinary. The progress never materialized as authentic. The power he showed that season – not so much the career best 18 home runs, but the 32 doubles; he would only hit 36 doubles over the next two seasons – never returned, not even as Hermida received 171 plate appearances in Fenway Park. The potential that made Hermida one of baseball’s most promising youngsters is unfulfilled. Some blame injures – Hermida has played in more than 140 games once in his big league career – while others will blame an assortment of factors.

Left For Dead:
link - The New York Mets talked big before the deadline. They were looking at pitchers from Dan Haren to Ted Lilly to Roy Oswalt. They landed none of the three and apparently decided to give up. General manager Omar Minaya tried to pull the wool over the eyes of the Chicago Cubs, offering pitcher Oliver Perez and infielder Luis Castillo in return for Carlos Zambrano, a deal the Cubs smartly turned down. While I'm sure Minaya tried to acquire several players, they let the deadline go without doing much at all and certainly nowhere near what they needed to do to catch the front-running Atlanta Braves
Drew Martinez:
link - With just three games left in the regular season, the Whitecaps have a shot to get that division title they seemed destined for. But whether they do it or not, they’re in the playoffs regardless. And they might have found something that works. Brewster made a lineup change for Saturday’s game and stuck with it Sunday, when it really paid off. Drew Martinez (Memphis), the leadoff hitter all year, moved into the third spot. He went 3-for-5 on Saturday, and on Sunday, he went 4-for-4 with four RBI.
Placed on suspended list: ... SS Jordany Valdespin
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck did he do now?
Hey Hobie...
ReplyDeleteHappened over a week ago, after the top of the first inning in a home game. Fonzie never came out of the dugout to coach on third and was replaced with George Green. Inning ended and Spin didn't come out of the dugout. Word was the locker was cleaed out to the other side of the field in the extended building.
He's a problem Hobie no matter how much talent he has. Think Lasto.
