The Keepers - #74 - Andres Perez

74. Andres Perez – OF

Perez signed with the Mets in October 2007 during the International signing period. He was assigned to the DSL Mets for the 2008 season, where he went .267/.336/.349 in 241 at bats.

In 2009, Perez played first for the VSL Mets, where he went .311/.357/.440//.797 in 241 at bats. His wOBAincreased from 311 in 2008 to .411 for this year’s VSL Mets.

Once the VSL season was over, they shipping him out to the DSL Mets to help them finished their season. He got in 40 DSL at-bats, hitting: .375/.419/.425/844.

His combines 2009 season stats were: 281-AB, .320/.365/.438/.803.

Forecast: No, this not the ex-Yankee prospect, nor did he ever serve the role as President of Venezuela.

Perez proved all season he is ready to come stateside, and his stock only rose higher after he stepped up, helping the DSL Mets at the end of the season. There’s a lot of tension between these two countries and this isn’t an easy thing to do, no less excel at it.

The Mets are always looking for an outfield bat and, hopefully, he will be 2010’s version of Cesar Puello.

Don’t be surprised he doesn’t start next spring in Kingsport.

5-30-10 from: - http://myworldofbaseball.com/wordpress/?cat=42  - Andres Perez RF - The Mets are one of the few teams that still have facilities in Venezuela. Perez hit .311 with a team leading 44 RBIs, then moved to the DSL for 10 games, where he hit .375. The Mets should have him stateside in a short season league in 2010.

7-31-10: - Perez is still listed as a member of the Mets, but he never surfaced in 2010. It is possible he has visa problems, but we will keep trying to figure out what happened to him.
