St. Lucie 4, Lakeland 1

from press release:

The St. Lucie Mets finally got back into the win column Saturday night at Digital Domain Park. The 4-1 victory over the Lakeland Flying Tigers snapped the Mets season high ten game losing streak. The win puts the Mets back at .500 on the second half of the season with an 18-18 record 1.5 games behind the first place Bradenton Marauders in the FSL South Division.

The game started slowly with the Mets getting only five base runners through the first five innings. Lakeland got on the board first chasing Mets starter Brandon Moore from the game with two on and one out in the top of the sixth inning. Elvin Ramirez relieved Moore and yielded an RBI single to the first batter he faced to allow the first run of the game which was charged to Moore. The Mets answered in the bottom of the frame scoring all the runs they would need to hold off the Flying Tigers. Pedro Zapata led the inning off with a triple then scored on an RBI single by the hot hitting Jordany Valdespin. Luke Montz followed with a two run home run to left field giving the Mets a 3-1 lead. Ramirez retired the final five batters he faced. Nick Carr pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Erik Turgeon notched his fourth save of the season getting out of a two on, two out jam in the ninth.

Elvin Ramirez got the win improving to 4-2 while Moore received a no-decision tossing 5.1 innings allowing one run on seven hits with four strikeouts. Montz provided the power with his two-run home run. Zapata and Rafael Fernandez both chipped in with two hits each with Zapata scoring once and driving in a run.

The Mets look to keep things rolling Sunday afternoon against the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Digital Domain Park. Jeurys Familia gets the start. Familia comes into the game with a 2-6 record and 6.13 ERA while leading the team with 78 strikeouts. Familia was solid in his last start receiving a tough luck loss after tossing six innings allowing only two runs on six hits while striking out seven batters.
