2011 ROSTER PROJECTION: - #99 - RP - Peter Birdwell

99. Peter Birdwell

Birdwell was drafted in the 25th round of the 2010 draft by the Mets.

From: - http://www.vanguard.edu/Athletics/MensB  ... fault.aspx - The athlete: Peter joins the Pride as a senior transfer from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington…played one season for Coach Dan Ramsay at Whitworth…had 39 strikeouts in 43 innings of work…before playing for WU, attended Riverside City College, where he played for Head Coach Dennis Rogers…was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 41st round of the 2008 MLB draft…has played baseball for 18 years…right-handed pitcher who has loads of potential…big, strong and possesses a power hammer…will compete for the closer position for VUSC…should be an impact newcomer for the Blue and Gold in 2010. Coach Grajeda’s Comments: Pete is a guy that has a huge ceiling and I think his new surroundings will revitalize him. I know his character and drive and look for a break-out season from him. He will challenge as the team’s closer.
2010:  Started the season for the GCL Mets (0-0, 0.00, 1.0-IP) but was promoted to Kingsport the next day. Yearly stats: 2-1, 3.94, 16-G, 1-start, 32.0-IP, 28-K, 21-BB.

For Kingsport:

9-4-10: - 2011 Projection: - Birdwell was another senior that signed with the Mets with no big fanfair. The good news here is the 18-years experience he already has on the mound. Had a decent season excpet for the fact that he almost gave up as many walks as the strikeouts he tossed. Birdwell will pitch next season as a 24-year old, so the Mets need to push him on the Savannah so they can find out if they have something here.
