LAST GAME: The B-Mets were done in by an eight-run third
inning in a 13-3 loss to Harrisburg Sunday night in the penultimate
game of 2010. The flood gates opened for the Senators
in the third when Brad Coon ripped the first of his five hits
with a solo homer to right. 12 men came to the plate in all,
racking up eight runs on seven hits in the frame, knocking
Binghamton starter Scott Shaw from the game. Shaw allowed
six runs on four hits over 2.2 innings to take the loss. The BMets
tallied for the first time against starter Ryan Tatusko in
the fourth inning with a two-out RBI single from Raul Reyes.
That proved to be the only run allowed by Tatusko, who hurled
seven, strong inning to pick up his third win. Eric Niesen followed
Shaw and allowed five runs on eight hits over two innings.
Down 13-1 entering the ninth, the B-Mets made some
noise with a two-run, pinch-hit homer from Salomon Manriquez.
Harrisburg fell one-hit shy of their season-high in hits
with 18.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Dylan Owen gets the call
for his tenth start in the B-Mets season finale this afternoon.
He fell an out short of a win in his last start, September 1 at
Portland, after tossing 4.2 innings. Owen allowed two runs
(one earned) on three hits and struck out five Sea Dogs. On
the year, he is 4-4 with a 4.23 ERA over 76.2 innings. He has
also appeared in 10 games (7 GS) with Buffalo (AAA) this
season where he was 3-4 with a 7.11 ERA over 44.1 innings.
Owen made 23 starts for Binghamton last season, chewing up
a team-best 123 innings with a 4-10 record and 5.93 ERA. He
was the Mets 20th round selection in the 2007 draft out of
Francis Marion University in Florence, SC.
RHP Tanner Roark will take his sixth turn in the Senators
rotation in hopes of sending Harrisburg to the postseason for
the first time since 2002. He garnered a no-decision in his
last start, September 1 at New Hampshire, where he allowed
a run on five hits over 6.1 innings. Roark is 1-1 with a 2.37
ERA over 30.1 innings with the Senators. He opened the season
with Frisco (AA) and was 10-5 with a 4.20 ERA over 22
appearances (17 GS) spanning 105 innings. Roark was acquired
by the Nationals along with Ryan Tatusko via a deadline
deal with Texas for Cristian Guzman. In 2009, Roark went
10-0 with a 2.70 ERA over 29 appearances with Bakersfield
(High-A). The Rangers drafted him in the 25th round of the
June 2008 draft.
COHOON FINISHES STRONG: B-Mets southpaw Mark Cohoon
started slow with Binghamton, going 1-3 with a 7.24 ERA over
his first seven starts (32.1 IP) after being promoted from Savannah
(Low-A). However, he finished strong with a 4-1 mark
and a 1.63 ERA over his final six starts (38.2 IP).
