Jenry Marte:



10-5-10 from: - BA  - As for Marte, he wasn't particularly close to making the SAL Top 20. He showed improvement while repeating the league at age 19 and he still has impressive bat speed and raw power, but he has a long swing and isn't going to stick at third base. He's a prospect, but he just wasn't good enough for a Top 20 in a strong 14-team league.

 metslifers  - Let's say the Mets have to keep Castillo or platoon with Tejada at second and Thole is your catcher. Between second base and catcher that's a grand total of maybe 5 home runs for a season. If you have another position player who gets injured (like a Beltran) or under performs (like a Bay) then you've got some gaping holes in your lineup. Maybe Daniel Murphy will return and become the Pete Rose type of player everyone dreams he will be (unlikely). Then you might have your solution at second base. Also it's not like there are a ton of power hitting catchers out there that you can just grab up. You don't want to pick up a Varitek or Pudge who are aging, one year rentals either. So I think your move has to be to get some extra pop at second base. Maybe a Ty Wiggington can return? I'm not sure, but there has to be some additional RBI/HR production from one of these two positions.

 Wilpon’s Call to David:


NYDN  - Soon after Jeff Wilpon fielded a question in Monday's news conference at Citi Field about whether he would be open to trading David Wright, the third baseman's phone began buzzing with text messages from friends. But Wright spent the day traveling home to Virginia, and had still not heard Wilpon's comments when the owner called him early Tuesday morning. "He just wanted to let me know that he wanted me to be here next year, and wants me to be part of the solution for many years," Wright told the Daily News by phone on Tuesday afternoon. "I agree. I have been here in the good times and the bad times, and I want to be here for years to come."

 Omar to Mets Fans:


dicomo  - "I want to thank the Mets fans. The Mets fans have been fans that have been very loyal. I want to tell the Mets fans that the organization, the Minor Leagues, I think they're in good shape. I think that our Major League club, going forward, the nucleus of this team healthy is a competitive team. The ownership is totally committed to winning. The people that work here are committed, when the fans come to the stadium, our fan experience. What I want to tell Mets fans is thank you for their support, and keep the faith. Keep on believing. Because it's going to happen. And I believe that the nucleus of people that work in this organization, not only on the baseball side, on the business side, are trying everything they can to bring a championship and to bring a wonderful baseball experience. So I will tell Mets fans thank you for the support over the years, and I'm a New Yorker and I'm going to be around town."

 Wilmer Flores:


10-5-10 from : - BA  - Flores played half the season at Savannah, batting .278/.342/.433 at age 18 and as the fourth-youngest regular in the league. He was on some of the earlier versions of the list, but after Bill Ballew talked to more scouts and managers while putting together the Top 20, Flores wound up just missing out. Flores' bat is obviously his best tool, but SAL observers knocked the rest of his game. He's not going to stay at shortstop, and some scouts questioned whether he'd be able to play third base because he has below-average speed and agility. There were concerns about him giving less than full effort at times. Flores spent last year in the SAL as well—he ranked 10th on last year's Top 20—and it's possible that SAL observers expected more improvement out of him this year.
