Cutnpaste: - Letters From Jeff, Ollie for Kazmir, Bill Pulsipher, Eddie Yost, and Aderlin Rodriquez

Letters From Jeff:

Well, it's Monday. And that probably means another e-mail from the Wilpons is on the horizon. The updates from Jeff promise to be boring and useless.

Or do they?

This should hit your inbox sometime early Tuesday, October 26th ...

Ollie for Kazmir:

The other problem is that the market isn't awash with options. Maybe you can afford to get in on Cliff Lee, but if not, you can address the rotation aggressively in another way. For grins and the entertainment value of bringing back a former Mets prospect, I'll offer Perez to the Angels for Scott Kazmir in a challenge trade that provides a pair of problem pitchers with changes of scenery. Both are locked in through 2011 for $12 million apiece, but Kazmir comes with a club option for 2012 that'll cost an additional $2.5 million to buy out; if the Angels fidget, I'll be generous and offer to skip any financial considerations—that'll be the Wilpons' $2.5 million to spend. But if Kazmir bounces back in the weaker league against divisional foes that lean left in their lineups, you've made a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Bill Pulsipher:

RHP (PR: Indios) - Scanning the box scores of Friday found a 4-0 win by Ponce over Mayaguez in Puerto Rico, but the story (OK, just for me) was Mayaguez starter Bill Pulsipher, who took the loss after allowing a pair of runs in two innings. At first, with just the last name in the box score, I thought, “It can't be that Pulsipher" ... yet it was. Having not pitched in organized baseball since 2005, the former hot-Mets property has been a hired gun (or rather right arm) in the Atlantic, Mexican, and Northern Leagues, and now, after turning 37 earlier in the month, he's pitching on the Isle of Enchantment. With all the stories about spoiled athletes, here's a reminder that the overwhelming majority of them just love playing.

Eddie Yost:

One-time Mets coach Eddie Yost's daughter is suing the team after she got plunked by a security guard's radio that fell from from an upper deck.

Alexis Yost Fougere, 45, needed surgery last week to repair a muscle tear she suffered in her left shoulder blade, her lawyer says. Fougere was watching her father participate in ceremonies at Citi Field honoring the 1969 championship team on Aug. 22, 2009, when the radio fell into Section 329, where she sat with relatives.

Her lawyer Gary Slobin said the radio zipped in from Section 424 overhead with such force that Fougere "blacked out."

Aderlin Rodriquez:

In 2011, Rodriguez will be a powerful addition to the Savannah Sand Gnats lineup and is definitely a prospect to watch within the organization. I’m curious to see where he ranks on New York Mets top-10 lists and can see him ranking in the top-6 depending on how much offensive projection is taken into consideration. When compared to other South Atlantic League prospects, his bat is less refined than the best hitters in the league, but his raw power potential may be even better than Colorado Rockies prospect Nolan Arenado and Philadelphia Phillies prospect Jonathan Singleton. However, Rodriguez has a lower floor leaving him a lesser prospect overall. With Ike Davis serving as both the Mets first baseman of the present and future, David Wright entrenched at third base, and the eventual shift of Wilmer Flores to the hot corner, Rodriguez is completely blocked at the big league level. Of course things could change in three to four years and Rodriguez’ bat projects well at either corner with continued offensive development. And while I like Wilmer Flores as a prospect who combines elite contact skills with some power projection, Rodriguez is the only prospect in the organization who has the ability to become a true impact bat in the heart of the New York lineup.
