Cutnpaste: - Sandy Alderson, Jeff Wilpon, Casey Hoorelbeke, Concussions, and Bobby V

San Diego Padres
 Sandy Alderson:

The biggest knock on Alderson has been that he hasn't run the day-to-day operations as a GM in over 15 years, but unlike those who use that argument I don't discredit his time as president of the A's or as CEO of the Padres. While Alderson shakes the rust off he may make some missteps but it's more important to have someone in position who can build an organizational foundation then the 2011 roster. Oakland was a GM factory when Alderson was their and while if hired he may come in with the title of GM, I expect him to have some very competent people around him.

Jeff Wilpon:

Jeff Wilpon is the last person I want to hear from regarding the Mets. I could care less that he's pretty much the only ranking official left to tell us anything, I don't want him to be the mouthpiece for anything much less the state of this baseball team. He's going to lead the ship with a steady hand after he's been widely regarded (and regarded by this useless blogger) as having caused all this? That's like Braxton Bragg sending out a note via Pony Express parchment in 1875 that the South would rise again.

 Casey Hoorelbeke:

RHP Casey Hoorelbeke have been named to the baseball America All-Independent Leagues First Team, the magazine announced.

Hoorelbeke, 30, was 10-5 with a 1.84 ERA in 52 relief appearances for Fargo-Moorhead in 2010. He pitched 83.0 innings and allowed 27 runs (17 earned) on 56 hits with 75 strikeouts and 31 walks. Hoorelbeke led the Northern League in ERA and appearances and tied for fifth in wins. Hoorelbeke previous played in the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets organizations, as well as in the Atlantic League.

Concussions:

A person familiar with the proposal tells The Associated Press that Major League Baseball is considering a 7-day disabled list for players with concussions.

The new DL could be instituted as soon as next season, the person told the AP, speaking on condition of anonymity because the proposal is in the preliminary stages.

A 7-day DL will be considered this offseason by a new concussion subcommittee that is being formed under baseball's medical advisory committee, the person said. If the subcommittee OKs the idea, it would need to be approved by commissioner Bud Selig, then the players' union.

 Bobby V.

Was Bobby Valentine a good manager? Sure; you don't get to 1,100 wins and an NL Pennant without being a good manager. But Valentine also seemed to take his talent where he found it.

His Texas Rangers teams had Ivan Rodriguez, Julio Franco, Rafael Palmeiro, Juan Gonzalez, Ruben Sierra, Kevin Brown, Nolan Ryan, Bobby Witt, Oil Can Boyd, Kenny Rogers, Jeff Russell, and Rich Gossage and couldn't win more than 85 games in a season.

His loaded New York Mets teams capsized in consecutive years in the playoffs (though they did reach the Series in 2000).

And one can't help but to notice that it has been nine seasons since any major league team has asked him to serve as their manager.
