Cutnpaste: - Sandy Alderson, Jorge De La Rosa, John Ricco, K-Rod, and Cliff Lee

San Diego Padres
 Sandy Alderson:

Sandy Alderson will be back at $iti Field for a second interview, this time with Freddy Skill Sets and Uncle Saul. I guess Freddy wasn’t kidding about not having and office at $iti since Alderson was there last week and Freddy and Saul couldn’t meet with them then? Freddy and Uncle Saul should demand that Jeffey move all the beer cans and soda bottles he’s collected all season and cash in the nickels so they can have a bit of space for them to call home.

Ok, can we wave the “must interview a minority” rule with the Mets ? The Tigers refused the Mets request to meet with Asst. GM Al Avila, who by the way has a good rep as a talent evaluator. If any team in baseball has gone above and beyond with minority hires it’s the NY Mets .

Jorge De La Rosa:

Jim Armstrong of the Denver Post believes that the Rockies will have trouble re-signing Jorge De La Rosa this offseason.

Cliff Lee is going to set the market with a massive $120-plus million deal, which will drive up De La Rosa's value. Ted Lilly has already been re-signed by the Dodgers and the Cardinals seem to have a beat on inking free agent Jake Westbrook to a multi-year contract. That leaves the 29-year-old De La Rosa as this winter's best second-tier quality starter. And, as always, every club will be looking to improve its rotation

 John Ricco:

Since his work is done behind the scenes, we don’t really know much about Ricco’s job and even less about his performance. All we can look at are the actions and the results. For example, he assisted Omar Minaya, and one of his responsibilities was to help with the contracts and arbitration cases. Presumably that means he was somewhat involved with the negotiation and execution of contracts with, for example, Oliver Perez, Luis Castillo, Alex Cora, Jason Bay, Kelvim Escobar, and Ryota Igarashi. We can also assume he had something to do with the decisions of going to arbitration with (rather than non-tendering) the likes of John Maine, Jeff Francoeur, and Sean Green. Nothing much to boast about there.

 K-Rod:

Rodriguez was emotional when he got the call. The bad news was that it counted as his one phone call for the day.

Cliff Lee

The 2008 Cy Young winner is easily the best starting pitcher on the market, and one of the best pitchers in baseball. Back problems slowed him in the second half of this season, but that didn’t stop him from leading the American League in WHIP (1.00) and Complete Games (7). Every team looking for a great starting pitcher will take a look at Lee, and the competition for his services will drive up his price. Keep in mind, he’s owned the Yankees in the last couple years, and you better believe they’ve noticed. What’s the best way to make sure they no longer have to face him?
