Cutnpaste: - Bobby, Wilmer, Jose, Ollie, and 2B

 Bobby:

Valentine is said to have had a bad parting with Mets owner Fred Wilpon, and one Mets executive said months ago that he believed Valentine would have a hurdle to clear to have a chance to get the Mets job. Now with Sandy Alderson in as the Mets' new GM, it appears Valentine's chances would be next to nil.

Alderson is the mentor to Moneyball, and while associates expect him to seek some managerial experience, being that it's New York, they don't think he'll go for someone as strong-willed as Valentine (one of Moneyball's tenets is that the manager is seen as middle management, which might be part of the reason Bochy didn't last in San Diego too long after Anderson got there).

 Wilmer:

Wilmer Flores, the organization's top prospect, does plan to resume playing winter ball in his native Venezuela, Mets farm director Adam Wogan said. The 19-year-old shortstop has been out of action with Margarita since Oct. 14 because of a left calf injury. "Wilmer is currently in the middle of a hitting program and plans to return to play this winter," Wogan said.

 Jose:

Here is one thing which will not change next year at Citi Field: Jose Reyes will remain the team’s shortstop.

The Mets today exercised a club option on Reyes’ contract, extending him through the 2011 season, the team announced. His salary will be $11 million. The move is not unexpected. The two sides can now begin hammering out a multi-year extension – if new general manager Sandy Alderson wants to commit to Reyes. NJ.com

 Ollie:

was kind of hoping Oliver Perez wouldn't win this award because he's certain to win the Worst Starter award, too, and it would've been nice to mix things up a bit. And in fairness to Ollie, as much as his 13 relief innings were an unmitigated disaster, they were still only 13 innings. Ryota Igarashi tossed 30.1 relief innings and allowed a mind-blowing 24 runs. Fernando Nieve allowed 23 runs and eight home runs in 40 innings. Elmer Dessens struck out just 16 batters in 47 innings. These guys were all worse than Perez when we consider the full breadth of abject uselessness, for as bad as Perez surely was, even 13 truly miserable innings can devalue a man only so much.

 Second base:

The club's Opening Day second baseman may already be on the roster -- if not Luis Castillo, then Ruben Tejada or even Daniel Murphy. But that won't stop the Mets from searching for a long-term solution at second base, a position that has troubled them ever since Jose Valentin broke his leg back in 2007. In an ideal world, the Mets would find a taker for Castillo, who has one year and $6 million left on his contract.
