Drew Martinez:

11-17-10 from: - http://www.collegesummerbaseball.net/2010/11/top-performers -from-2010-drew-martinez.html - Drew is a 5-10/180 pound Junior outfielder from the University of Memphis. Drew hails from Collierville, TN. To date, Drew has had a tremendous career at Memphis. In 2009 he was named to the C-USA All-Freshman team. Last year, he hit .377 and drove in 41 in 260 at-bats. He was also 15th in the nation with 98 hits in 2010. He was named to the 2nd Team All-CUSA list for his 2010 season. He was drafted by the Mets in the 23rd round of the 2010 MLB Draft, but he failed to sign a contract with them. Drew was one of the best hitters in the Cape Cod League this past summer. While other players garnered all kinds of press, all Drew did was hit for a .359 average and lead the league with 52 hits. In 145 at-bats, he scored 25 runs, drove in 18 and hit one home run. The speedy outfielder also stole 22 bases for the #11 Whitecaps. He also had a bb/k ratio of 16/22 and he had a fielding percentage of .928 this summer

Top 100 Cape Cod League prospects – #11-20 - 11-16-10 from: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=5114 -

11. BRETT MOONEYHAM, lhp, Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (Stanford/JR in 2011)- 6-5 LHP stood out in 4 pre-Team USA starts (3-0, 3.18); attacked hitters with feel, threw strikes with 89-92 FB, + breaking ball, CH

12. MARCUS STROMAN, rhp, Orleans Firebirds (Duke/SO in 2011) Settled into closer-only role, and dominated (0.00, 10 SV, 25 IP, 3 BB/32 SO); has clean arm action, command of 94-96 FB, CU, CH

13. JACK ARMSTRONG, rhp, Wareham Gatemen (Vanderbilt/JR in 2011) Not as dominating as breakout 2009 Cape summer; FB more 92-94 (vs. 95-97), short-armed ball, didn’t take advantage of 6-7 frame

14. RYAN CARPENTER, lhp, Orleans Firebirds (Gonzaga/JR in 2011) Struggled in 2 college seasons, excelled again in summer (3-0, 2.56, 39 IP/39 SO); FB at 88-93, + CH, needs work on CU, rhythm

15. JASON ESPOSITO, ss/3b, Orleans Firebirds (Vanderbilt/JR in 2011) Flashed 5 tools in brief stint (.246-1-4) before joining Team USA; prototype 3B if power plays with wood, hands/arm playable at SS

16. ANTHONY MEO, rhp, Bourne Braves (Coastal Carolina/JR in 2011) Electric arm with FB routinely at 92-96, occasionally 98, SL that peaks in 87-89 range; needs command of CH to settle in as starter

17. MIKIE MAHTOOK, of, Harwich Mariners (Louisiana State/JR in 2011) Struggled adapting to wood (.182-1-1 in 10 G) before leaving for Team USA, but has complete package; had 9 SB, can play all 3 OF

18. ALEX DICKERSON, of, Wareham Gatemen (Indiana/JR in 2011) Got 9-game cameo (.500-1-7) before joining Team USA, but pure hitting skills/+ raw power were evident; other areas just average

19. JASON COATS, of, Bourne Braves (Texas Christian/JR in 2011) Led TCU to CWS berth, then topped Bourne in hitting (.314 on season, .556 in playoffs); sound approach to hitting, uses whole field

20. EDDIE OROPESA, 1b/3b, Chatham Anglers (Southern California/JR in 2011) Has exceptional power, but feast or famine approach; topped league in HR (7), SO (52); needs to get shorter to ball; equal at 1B/3B

Steve Selsky: - 11-17-10 from: - http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/2010/11/17/top-100-countdown-62-steve-selsky-arizona  - The junior from Manhattan Beach, California, won a CIF championship with Loyola High School in 2007, a team that also included Danny Muno of Fresno State. Selsky was named the Team MVP in 2008, and participated in the National Homerun Derby at Tropicana Field, representing California. Selsky had a great Freshman campaign, hitting .318 in 34 starts. His 7 homeruns and 21 RBI were good enough for him to be named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball, but the Wildcats failed to make the postseason. Selsky broke out as one of the Pac-10′s top outfielders in 2010 with a .370 Batting Average, a team leading 9 homeruns, 52 RBI and 1.057 OPS. Arizona was able to get to the postseason in 2010, going 1-2 in the Forth Worth Regional.

Lance McCullers Jr.: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=5116  – McCullers, , a junior at Tampa Jesuit High, is so advanced in all phases of his game that he could conceivably be a candidate to go first overall two years from now as either a right-handed pitcher or power-hitting infielder. The general view among scouts is that McCullers’ upside may be slightly higher on the mound, and radar-gun readings in the 96-97 mph range have been standard procedure for him at this early stage of his career. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound McCullers comes by his talent honestly as his father was a second-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies out of a Tampa high school in 1982, and went on to play seven years in the big leagues, mostly as a reliever with the San Diego Padres.

  1. It’s best to think ahead from as early as possible when preparing these tactics of course– it can be a real nightmare to pick apart a model and add support structures or cut it apart.
