The Mack Draft Report
Nov. 16, 2010
Florda JUCO Prospects: - 11-15-10 from http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=5108 - Florida junior colleges have traditionally had the greatest impact than any state on the draft, but it does not appear to have an elite prospect this year of the magnitude of Washington or Wood. The top-rated prospects in Florida at this point are a pair of four-year transfers drawn to the state from remote locations – Indian River State JC sophomore second baseman Cory Spangenberg, a transfer from Virginia Military Institute, and Chipola sophomore catcher Geno Escalante, a transfer from Cal State Fullerton. Spangenberg signed with Miamiin the early period, Escalante with East Carolina.

Oregon: - 10-15-10 from: - http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/baseball/news;_ylt=AhRoILydadQoMFQ_ZQLM0ccMwLYF?slug=kr-oregon111010 - Tyler Anderson, who played for Team USA this past summer, Madison Boer, Alex Keudell, Joey Housey and Scott McGough are the household names at the conclusion of fall workouts. However, several young arms are expected to make significant contributions. Two-way player Brando Tessar is expected to throw significant innings as a freshman, right-hander Jimmy Sherfy continues to improve this fall, two-way player Ryon Healy could earn significant innings if he can make a complete comeback from an injury, right-hander Brandon Brennan has a big-time arm and was a 40th-round pick to the Rockies this past summer, and Porter Clayton, a late addition, is expected to join the program in January.
Jason Coats: -11-15-10 from: - http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/2010/11/15/top-100-countdown-64-jason-coats-tcu - Coats was able to secure a spot on the Horned Frogs squad as a walk-on in 2009. He didn’t disappoint as he went right into the starting lineup as a freshman. He appeared in 57 games (54 starts) while having a .316 batting average, six homers, and 32 RBI. He was extremely clutch as 12 out of those 32 RBI came with two outs in the inning. He was named the MOP of the Fort Worth Regional in 2009 in which the Horned Frogs won. He played the summer of 2009 in the Alaskan Baseball League with the Anchorage Glacier Pilots. Coats finished the summer with a .325 average while driving in 30 runs as he helped lead the Pilots to a runner-up finish in the NBC World Series. He was honored by Baseball America as the eighth best prospect in the Alaskan League.
Scrimmage News – Pepperdine Blue beats Orange… Nate Johnson with walk-off BB… Jon Moscot: 7.0-IP, 90-P, 4-K, 3-ER… Scott Frazier: 6.0-IP, 0-ER, 5-K, 86-P… Ricky Villarreal: 5-game series… 0.00 ERA, 3.2-IP.
Logan Jernigan: - http://www.diamondscapescouting.com/blog.html - Day Four – Logan Jernigan (South Johnston HS, Four Oaks, N.C.), a North Carolina State commit, maintained an 87-89 mph fastball through five innings, mixing in a slurvy mid-70s breaker with solid depth. The righty also flashed a rudimentary changeup that jumped between the low-and-upper-70s and lacked deception. His arm action and projection in his 6-foot-3, 180-pound build portend an increase in velocity, though it remains to be seen whether it will come in time for an organization to buy him out of his Wolfpack commitment.
Ryan Meyer: - 11-5-10: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=5095 – WWBA stars - RHP Ryan Meyer (Orlando Scorpions): Meyer’s stuff is so consistent that it’s easy to forget how good he is and how well he projects. The 6-5, 195 lb right hander topped out at 92 mph for the first time at a PG/WWBA event and his 80 mph slider continues to be a very good second pitch. It’s hard to imagine that Meyer isn’t going to keep getting better.
Archie Bradley: - 11-11-10 from: - http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/ - #7 - RHP Archie Bradley Muskogee HS, Oklahoma 6'3 205 - power arm righty with above ave ML CB that's a knuckle curve, with sharp downer action and control is good of it. FB velo varies, will touch 95 on occ, pitches at 88-91 consistently, should increase as he gets football out of his system. Is a top notich HS QB and early commit to OU, but also loves this game and will be highly scouted early next spring. Comps to Brad Penny, but Brad's more max effort, this kid tends to get better as the game goes along and does it easy.
