The Mack Draft Report - Nov. 24, 2010
Team USA vs. Cape Cod Baseball: - 11-23 from: - http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/2010/11/23/team-usa-vs-cape-cod-baseball-league/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+CollegeBaseballDaily+%28College+Baseball+Daily%29&utm_content=Twitter - Both Team USA and the Cape Cod Baseball League have always had a tedious relationship. Some of the Cape League teams felt this past summer that Team USA waited on the Cape rosters to be released before releasing their invites. I think this past season was more of a consequence of the USA Baseball trials being so late in the summer thus making potential players show up in the Cape for a month then take off for a week to play in the trials. The players that didn’t make the team returned back to the Cape or shut it down for the summer.
Trevor Oakes: - 11-23-10 from: - http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/ - RHP, "TJ" Trevor Oakes, U of Minnesota, 6'4 1/2 210, classic build and delivery, TJ will turn 21 right after the draft in 2011 and is a draft eligible sophomore. TJ has good bloodlines as his father Todd pitched several years in the minors and I happened to pitch against Todd in College when he attended the U of Nebraska. TJ has a fb that will touch 91-92, most are upper 80's with late tailing in action vs RHH and a hard curveball, TJ is not overpowering but has good leverage and command of his pitches. He throws nice and easy downhill from H 3/4 arm slot with little effort. TJ attended Tartan HS. I will hopefully get to see him pitch in Winston Salem, NC next spring, along with seeing Puhl play, who's projected to play SS in 2011 and is a better 2b candidate and at 6'4 plus, not many as tall as that in the majors but he could be a first.

71. DEVIN JONES, rhp, Bourne Braves (Mississippi State/JR in 2011)Continues to struggle putting it altogether, throw quality strikes (2-2, 5.60, 27 IP, 43 base runners), but no mistaking ++ raw stuff
72. SCOTT SNODGRESS, lhp, Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (Stanford/JR in 2011) Results (0-2, 3.97, 23 IP/15 SO) point to inconsistency, but 6-5 lefty flashes three + pitches (mid-90s FB, CU with depth/tilt, + CU)

Tony Zych: - 11-11-10 from: - http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/ - #18 - RHP Tony Zych Louisville 6'2 185 R/R - lanky build with a power arm, fb mostly true, was 88-92 out of HS in Chicago, but has added strength naturally and still getting stronger. Had a great summer in the Cape and was up to 98 on a few pitches according to reports. I've seen up to 94 many times with not a lot of effort, fb will need to be pitched down in zone using L zone for a hitter, work corners and in on hitters, has hard cb from 11/6, high 3/4 slot and change is a working in progress still but demeanor set up to be a closer in pro ball with more upside than former Georgia flash, Fields who's with the Mariners farm system at present.
Jack Armstrong: - 11-11-10 from: - http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/ - #19 - RHP Jack Armstrong Vanderbilt 6'7 220 - after a poor second season for the 'dores, Jack Jr is showing plus fb velocity with some arm side run, he's more effective down in the zone where he can get heavy action on his fb that produces grounders and k's, velocity up to 94, most are 89-91 with sink when down, middle up fb is still very hittable, so command and consistency in his delivery are going to be key issues. This young man grew a lot from the time he turned 15 until last spring and he's just starting to come into his own. Hard H3/4 cb that is up to 81, with downward action, late break which will improve and also shows effective straight change on occ.
Ryan Wright: - 11-11-10 from: - http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com/ - #20 - 2B-SS-3B, Utility - Ryan Wright Louisville 6'1 195 R/R - had a great summer showing off his ML arm, aggressiveness and compact swing that will drive in runs as a 3 hole or 5-6 hole guy in the lineup. Where is he going to play? Preferably at 2B once he signs. He runs well underway, not a burner, more instinctive runner. Has quickness with his bat to generate 10-15 type HR power. Redbird program will be watched closely!
11-8-10 from: - http://diamondscapescouting.com/rankings_usacnttop15_09082010.html -
inf
Louisville (Jr.) - Wright is a versatile defender, logging time across the infield, but probably profiles best at either second or third base at the next level. His bat fits best at second, where he could provide average pop and an above-average hit tool with solid on-base skills. He works well up-the-middle and handles the barrel well enough to drive the ball to both lines. Wright stays compact to contact and put together strong at bats throughout trials week against top USA arms and carrying his strong performance through the remainder of the summer. He was the most consistent bat on the squad of all the regulars, finishing third in slugging and on-base percentage and second in hitting.
