Green and Carter, Phillips Being Mack, Remember The Maine, Lasto, and Pitchf/x

Mack Ade
 Green and Carter:

Green in fact, was non-tendered. Chris Carter, the guy who Omar Minaya chose to trade Billy Wagner for rather than keeping Wagner, offering arbitration, and getting the two draft picks that the Red Sox got, was also non-tendered. Two draft picks exchanged for 167 at-bats. Wonderful. I know there's no use crying over spilt milk, but when Sandy Alderson took this job he was given an office where milk is still gushing out of the window. Thanks a bunch, Omar. - Metstradamus

Phillips Being Mack:
Even though he’s moved on from ESPN, Steve Phillips is still doing the goofy “pretend I’m a real-life GM” thing. Only now he’s not at a podium taking scripted questions from fake press, he’s sitting in front of a bookshelf talking to a webcam and showing a healthy dose of bare chest. The big reveal, of course, is that Steve Phillips owns books. - Ted Quarters

Remember The Maine:

The Mets still can resign Maine, but that seems unlikely, because he made $3.3 million last season, the third straight year his production declined. He bottomed out with a nightmarish 2010 in which he went 1-3 with a 6.13 ERA in nine starts in a season cut short by shoulder surgery. Maine also feuded with former manager Jerry Manuel, as well as pitching coach Dan Warthen, who is returning next season with new manager Terry Collins. Sources said Maine is now healthy and ready to start throwing. - New York Post

Lasto:

Milledge, 25, was acquired in the summer of 2009, along with Hanrahan, from Washington in the trade that sent outfielder Nyjer Morgan and reliever Sean Burnett to the Nationals. Milledge batted .277 with four home runs and 34 RBIs this past season, losing his everyday duty over the final two months. He displayed none of the negative off-field traits that were documented in New York and Washington, but his lack of power and erratic defense convinced management he was not a corner-outfield option. - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pitchf/x:

Today we're going to focus on two findings I found while looking at AFL data this year. The Arizona Fall League, for those who don't know, is a winter league between 6 teams that takes place during late october and early november in Arizona. Major league teams send AA and above prospects (and each team can send 1 A-ball prospect) to the AFL to get extra work. Two ballparks in the AFL, Surprise and Peoria, which house 3 of the 6 teams, have had Pitchf/x installed over the last two years. Now it's known this year that the hitting prospects in the AFL were of a higher caliber than the pitching prospects. So our results overall should be at least somewhat hitter friendly. Still I was curious how curveballs did against players who were essentially minor leaguers and came upon another topic, Defense in the AFL, as part of my look. We'll start with a look at defense in this league after the jump. -
