Mack Draft: - Danny Hultzen, Austin Wood, Cass Hargis, Ethan Carter, and Kolton Wong

We continue the list today with number 14 in our countdown with Virginia junior LHP/First Baseman Danny Hultzen. He is from Bethesda, Md.and attended St. Albans where he played baseball all four seasons. He had a great senior season as he went going 13-0 with a 0.74 ERA with 140 strikeouts in 73 innings while hitting six homers and driving in 37 runs. He picked up several awards as he was named a high school First-Team All-American by Baseball America and Louisville Slugger in 2008. He also the All-Met Player of the Year as senior and First-Team All-Met as junior. His junior season saw him have a record of 7-1 with 0.35 ERA (52 IP, 105 K, 12 BB). My next top performer from the 2010 summer season is Austin Wood from the #7 ranked Cotuit Kettlers. Austin is currently a 6-4/220 pound rhp from Niceville, FL. He attended and was a star at Niceville High School. He was drafted in 2008 by the Astros in the 36th round, but elected to attend Florida State University instead. After struggling as a freshman at FSU, Austin transferred to St. Petersburg CC. He went 3-4, and had a 4.81 era in 43 innings pitched. His performance at St. Petersburg was good enough for Baseball America to rank him as one of the best JUCO players in the country. My next top performer from the 2010 summer season is Cass Hargis of the Thomasville HiToms. Cass is currently a senior outfielder from Southeastern Louisiana University. He is 5-9/170 pounds and hails from Meraux, LA. He attended Holy Cross High School. This past Spring, Cass hit .303/.429/.385 in 261 at-bats for the Lions. He hit 1 long-ball and he knocked in 42 on the season as well. Cass spent this past summer playing for the Thomasville HiToms of the Coastal Plain League. He simply was one of the best hitters in the league. He hit .326/.451/.385 in 193 at-bats. He scored 30 runs, knocked in 23 and smacked 3 home runs as well this past summer. The South Carolina Gamecocks are facing an uphill battle this year as they lost Blake Cooper and Sam Dyson from last year’s championship squad and received some bad news today. Head coach Ray Tannet announced today that sophomore RHP Ethan Carter was dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules.Last season, Carter went 3-0 with two saves and a 5.46 ERA while striking out 30 batters in 28 innings pitched. He ended up appearing in 24 games but the Gamecocks started to rest him at the end of the season which saw him only appear in one game at the CWS where he gave up a homer to Tyler Ogle in an elimination game. Kolton Wong – Hawaii - Wong is a good overall athlete with the ability to play a number of positions on the field. He has settled in nicely at second base, and followed up a strong season for the Rainbow Warriors with an MVP season on the Cape in which he finished second in the league in on-base percentage (.426), tied for second in steals (22), third in batting (.341) and fourth in slugging (.452).
