Carson, taking the mound for the first time since May 31, was perfect from the get-go. The left-hander struck out the first three batters of the ballgame and faced the minimum through four, striking out six along the way.
After getting fewer than three runs of support per game in his first ten starts, Carson got the back-up he needed in the fourth. With Josh Satin on base after his 40th walk of the season, Brahiam Maldonado took starter Manny Banuelos deep for his team-leading 13th home run of the year.
The offense would not stop for Binghamton. Following a walk to Salomon Manriquez and a double by Jean Luc Blaquiere, Eric Campbell came through with his second two-run double in as many days. The right fielder stroked a two-bagger to right field and later scored on Naoya Okamoto’s wild pitch to give Binghamton a 5-0 lead.
Carson’s only battle came in the fifth inning. He allowed a pair of home runs and watched his lead shrink to two. The left-hander managed to bear down and retire the final two batters of the inning to make himself eligible for the win.
In his first relief appearance at the Double-A level, Collin McHugh got the job done. After posting two scoreless innings, he was given more breathing room in the sixth. Jon Malo stroked his first home run of the season, a three-run shot, off new reliever Fernando Hernandez to kick the lead to five. The B-Mets added two more in the seventh.
McHugh took control the rest of the way to earn his first save with the B-Mets and fourth of his career. His only blemish was a solo home run allowed to Bradley Suttle in the ninth.
