Binghamton 7, Akron 2

The Binghamton Mets squeezed in six and a half innings before torrential rain rolled through the area and defeated the Akron Aeros 7-2 tonight at NYSEG Stadium.

Binghamton jumped out to a three run lead in the first inning and never looked back. Facing Aeros starter Austin Adams for the fourth time this season, Jordany Valdespin kicked off the rally with an infield single and advanced to second on third baseman Kyle Bellows’ throwing error.

The B-Mets shortstop then stole third base and came home on Josh Satin’s single to left field. After Brahiam Maldonado walked, Allan Dykstra drove home a pair with a double to left-centerfield.

It was all the offense B-Mets’ starter Collin McHugh would need to collect his first Double-A win. The right-hander allowed six Aeros to reach base in his first two innings, but only allowed one run. Akron left twelve men on base in only seven turns at bat.

The B-Mets tacked on two more runs in the third on a double by Reese Havens and a sac fly from Josh Satin before adding another pair of scores in the fourth. Raul Reyes squeaked his fourth homer of the year over the left field fence and Eric Campbell came home on a wild pitch to give Binghamton a six run lead.

Akron scratched back with a run in the fifth on Beau Mills’ run-scoring double, but that would prove to be the game’s final score.

In the sixth, McHugh racked up his eighth strike out of the night before giving way to Ricky Brooks who ended the frame by inducing Tim Fedroff to fly out.

Josh Stinson took over in the seventh and battled the rain to post a scoreless frame. The tarp was pulled on the field immediately after the righty struck out Juan Apodaca to end the inning. Following a 40 minute delay, the contest was called.

The victory gives Binghamton their second straight series win. The B-Mets completed their six-game homestand with a 4-2 mark.
