St. Lucie 7, Jupiter 4

The St. Lucie Mets bounced back to defeat the Jupiter Hammerheads 7-4 Monday night at Digital Domain Park. The win puts the Mets at 33-31, a game ahead of the Ft. Myers Miracle for first place in the FSL South Division with six games remaining in the first half.

After a one hour delay in the bottom of the first inning, sloppy defense by the Hammerheads led to five first inning runs which would be all the offense the Mets would need to hold off the Hammerheads. Matt den Dekker walked with one out. Juan Lagares reached on an error followed by a two-run double by Jefry Marte to open the scoring up. Wilmer Flores followed with a two-out RBI single making it 3-0 and the Mets put the game out of reach on a Cesar Puello two-run home run making it 5-0 after one inning. Mets starter Matt Harvey returned after spending over an hour in the dugout and picked up right where he left off. Harvey allowed one run over five innings while striking out eight batters en route to his eighth victory of the season. Marte drove in another run in the second inning and den Dekker homered to cap off the Mets scoring with a 7-1 advantage through four innings of play. The Hammerheads tried to battle back, getting a run in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth, but Nick Carr came in with one on and two out in the ninth and retired the only batter he faced to seal the win notching his sixth save of the season.

Matt Harvey was solid through five innings improving to 8-2 on the season and Mike Powers tossed two scoreless frames for the Mets. The Mets managed only seven hits but were able to capitalize on four Jupiter errors. Jefry Marte drove in three runs and Cesar Puello drove in a pair. Den Dekker scored twice and Pedro Zapata chipped in with two in the win.
