B-Mets Pre-Game Notes

LAST GAME: The B-Mets jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 10-1 win over the Reading Phillies last night at FirstEnergy Stadium. Jordany Valdespin set the tone by homer-ing on the first pitch of the game against starter J.C. Ramirez. The B-Mets would tack on three more runs to give starting pitcher Brandon Moore a sizable cushion. It was more than enough for the right-hander to earn his eighth win of the year. Moore allowed just two hits over six shutout innings. Bingham-ton would add two more runs on Ramirez in the fifth and Bra-hiam Maldonado took reliever Derrick Loop deep for a two-run shot in the seventh. Juan Lagares went 5-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and a triple. Ricky Brooks took over in the seventh and worked around four hits to post two shutout innings. John Lujan allowed Reading’s only run on a solo homer by Terry Evans in the ninth.



STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Robert Carson makes his 18th start of the season and third against the Sea Dogs. Car-son took a no-decision in his last start, allowing four runs on seven hits while walking four in 3.1 innings against Portland on July 20. Carson is 0-1 versus Portland this season with a 12.79 ERA. He has not won since June 17.


RHP Brock Huntzinger will make his 18th start of the year and fourth against Binghamton. Huntzinger matched up against Carson on July 20 and also took a no-decision. He allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings. In his previous three starts versus the B-Mets, the righty has gone 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA, racking up 20 strike outs in 15 innings.


GETTING COMFORTABLE: In just his second game in a Bing-hamton uniform, outfielder Juan Lagares became the first B-Met in over a year to have a five-hit game. Lagares went 5-for-5 yesterday with two doubles, a triple, an RBI, and three runs scored. Kirk Nieuwenhuis was the last Met for rack up five hits in a game, when he performed the feat against the Portland Sea Dogs on 4/20/10.


SOUP STAYS HOT: B-Mets third baseman Eric Campbell went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored yesterday to ex-tend his hitting streak to nine games. It matches a season-high previously set by Josh Satin, Raul Reyes, and Jordany Valdespin. Campbell is hitting .382 (13-34) over the stretch.


OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT: Jordany Valdespin led off last night’s game by hammering the first pitch he saw from J.C. Ramirez over the right field fence for his 14th home run of the season. It was the fourth time this year Valdespin has led off a first inning with a home run.
