B-Mets Pre-Game Notes

LAST GAME: The Portland Sea Dogs collected ten hits, including two home runs to defeat the B-Mets in the rubber match of a three-game series by a 5-2 score last night at NYSEG Stadium. B-Mets starter Tobi Stoner allowed all five runs (four earned) on nine hits in his fifth loss of the year. Ryan Dent ripped a two-run home run, his first of the season, in the second inning and Will Middlebrooks added his 14th dinger of the season in the sixth. The B-Mets could not break through against starter Stephen Fife. The right-hander allowed five hits and walked three, but managed to keep Binghamton off the board through six in-nings. The B-Mets plated two runs over two innings against reliever Charle Rosario, including Dusty Ryan’s solo homer in the eighth. Blake Maxwell notched his eleventh save with a perfect ninth inning.



STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Matt Harvey makes his sixth with Binghamton and first against the Senators. Harvey comes off a loss to the Reading Phillies on July 23. He allowed all of his runs in the first inning in a game the B-Mets would lose 3-2. The righty struck out five and allowed six hits over five innings.


RHP Erik Arnesen will make his 20th appearance of the season and tenth start. The New Jersey native began the year in the Senators bullpen, made a spot start on May 9, and was added to the rotation in early June. Arnesen has gone 4-3 with a 3.27 ERA as a starter. The righty has lost his last two games, falling to the Richmond Flying Squirrels in his last start on July 23. He allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits in four innings, his shortest outing as a starter. Arnesen was selected in the 17th round of the 2006 draft by the Nationals out of Grove City Col-lege (PA).


NO SECONDS FOR ANYONE: The B-Mets did not have anyone collect more than one hit last night for the first time in nearly two weeks. The last time Binghamton did not have a player have a multiple-hit game was against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in the nightcap of a doubleheader on July 14.


IT KEEPS GOING: With his single in the sixth inning yesterday, Brahiam Maldonado extended his hitting streak to a season-best eight games. He is hitting .452 (14-31) over the streak.


COMING BACK REFRESHED: Since returning from his suspen-sion, B-Mets reliever Edgar Ramirez has allowed just one earned run and struck out seven over 6.2 innings (1.35 ERA).


HUMP DAY WOES: With their loss last night, the B-Mets are now 4-11 on Wednesday, their worst record for any day of the week
