Mets starter Greg Peavey allowed a run in the first inning then settled down to toss seven innings allowing on the one run on four hits with four strikeouts. Dock Doyle tied the game for the Mets in the second inning driving in Cory Vaughn to make it 1-1. The Mets took the lead in the seventh inning on an RBI double by Juan Lagares giving the Mets a slim 2-1 advantage, the lead would not last. Two errors in the top of the eighth inning allowed the tying run to score. The teams exchanged zeros through the ninth and tenth innings but two more defensive miscues in the top half of the eleventh inning proved to be the Mets undoing. A fielding error and a throwing error allowed the eventual game winning run to score. Cory Vaughn led the bottom of the inning off with a base hit and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Dock Doyle, Vaughn would be stranded at second as the final two batters were retired closing out the Mets 3-2 loss.
Greg Peavey received the no-decision after lasting seven innings and leaving with the lead. Brandon Sage took the hard luck loss allowing the unearned run on the top of the eleventh. Pedro Zapata led the Mets with three hits and a run scored. Cory Vaughn and Dock Doyle both had two hits with Doyle driving in a run and Vaughn scoring once.
The Mets close out their four-game series with the Ft. Myers Miracle Thursday night at Digital Domain Park. Darin Gorski will get the start for the Mets in hopes of salvaging a series split with the Miracle. Gorski has been the FSL’s top pitcher with a miniscule 1.56 ERA, almost a full run better than the second best in the league. Gorski is 7-0 with 92 strikeouts which is good for second best in the FSL. He has walked only 18 batters while holding opposing hitters to a .214 batting average in 17 appearances, 11 starts covering 80.2 innings on the year. - from team press release
