Michael Fulmer:
7-25-11: - http://www.metstoday.com/6761/mets-news/mets-sign-michael-fulmer - Remember when the Mets allowed Pedro Feliciano to move crosstown to the Bronx as a free agent? Well, in return for losing the LOOGY, the Mets received a supplemental pick after the first round of the draft this past June, and they used it to draft high school pitcher Michael Fulmer. According to Baseball America, Fulmer has signed with the Mets for a little under a million dollars — $937,500 to be exact. Fulmer is 6’2″, 200 pounds, righthanded, and reportedly throws in the mid-90s.
Brahiam Maldonado:
7-25-11 – I really don’t know what to do with guy. He hit his 19th home run tonight for Binghamton, but the problem is he only has a total of 71 hits in 334 official at bats. That’s not good enough. He has almost as much strikeouts (103) as total bases (142) and, remember, 76 of those TBs came with the homers. That’s only 66 total bases from walks, singles, doubles and triples… in 334 at bats. Do you release someone who is second in the league with homeruns? Oh yeah, he won the Eastern League player of the week today. I’m confused.
Jordany Valdespin:
7-25-11: - Four more hits tonight for Jordy, or Spin, or whatever his nickname is. Batting average is .308. Hit two doubles for a total of 23 so far this season… hit his 15th home run. That’s a .500+ slugging percentage, 23 doubles, and 15 home runs for a 2B/SS known for his defensive skills. Hmm…
Josh Edgin:
7-25-11: - Josh threw another scoreless inning for St. Lucie last night. He now has pitched 50.1 innings this year in A/AA and has given up only five earned runs. The last time he pitched bad was April 12th when he gave up a run and three walked in 0.0-IP. I remember him walking past me three days later at the home opener and he smiled at me saying “come on Mack, don’t write anything bad about me…”. How could I? His combined ERA is 0.91 in 36 appearances!
Daniel Murphy:
Murphy wasn't graceful, flopping to the ground, stopping a ninth-inning grounder barehanded and nearly wiping out Isringhausen while diving for first base, but he got the job done. Izzy said he was fine afterward, although he was initially concerned about bending awkwardly. "My left hip, the one that's been repaired a couple of times, that's all I was worried about," the closer said. "Everything feels all right. I was worried about landing on him. I didn't want to hurt Murphy, land on his shoulder, because his arm was stretched out." - http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/30420/mets-morning-briefing-7-26-11
