Cutnpaste: - Miller Diaz, Luis Mateo, Robert Parnell, Nick Evans, Rockies Claim David Wright

8-14-11: - metsmerizedonline.  - Miller Diaz - The 19 year old, 6’1″ RHP from Venezuela was signed as an IFA in 2009. He has split time between the rotation (4 starts) and the pen. He is 1-0 with an ERA of 3.90, but he desperately needs to cut down on his walks, as he has 18 in 28 IP already.

He went 6-1, and in 63 IP he’s struck out 80 and walked just 5.

“Ever since Frankie got traded, I’ve been hoping for an opportunity to do this,” (Robert) Parnell said. “I kind of have been putting pressure on myself. And it just accumulated today. Luckily, everything went good. Hopefully it goes away a little bit, gets easier.” Parnell did walk leadoff hitter Chase Utley on four pitches. After fanning Ryan Howard with a 100 mph offering and striking out Hunter Pence too, Parnell issued his second walk of the inning, to John Mayberry Jr. Parnell then retired Carlos Ruiz on a groundout to secure the Mets win and his second major league save - http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/32990/parnells-2nd-save-feels-like-no-1

Because (Nick) Evans is out of options, each time he has been demoted, he has been placed through waivers. All three times -- at the end of spring training, and then in June and July -- 29 teams have passed on claiming him. Evans had the right to declare free agency the latter two times, and decided to remain with the organization. “I know the guys here,” Evans explained about staying. “I know the manager and the coaches here. You never know what’s going to happen when you go to another organization. I like it here. I want to be here. And I think it’s still an opportunity for me. “It’s difficult obviously to keep going down,” Evans added. “But as long as you know you have an opportunity to play your way back, it’s OK.” - http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/32998/thrice-unclaimed-evans-has-first-chance

Every year fans get frenzied over a high-profile player getting placed on waivers and then pulled back in August. Troy Renck of the Denver Post writes via Twitter (@TroyRenck): "I have learned the Rockies put a claim in on David Wright. ... Not sure who was awarded claim. ... Mets not interested in moving him. But it does show, as I have written, Rox really like Wright. If he becomes available, they will make play for him this winter. Teams put players on waivers to see who claims them to set groundwork for future trades, etc. 99 percent of time amounts to nothing. But it can give a team a starting point in trade talks. ... AGAIN, Mets have made clear they are NOT moving Wright. If changes, Rox will act." - http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/32965/mets-morning-briefing-8-25-11
