6-28 -10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/high-school/?p=204&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter – With the conclusion of the Tournament of Stars in Cary, N.C., USA Baseball has now announced the trials rosters for the 16U national teams. - Lucas Giolito RHP R/R 6-6 210 Harvard-Westlake HS, Los Angeles 2012
8-11-10 from: - http://baseballanalysts.com/ - Lucas Giolito (Harvard-Westlake, North Hollywood, CA), class of 2012, just turned 16 in July, yet matched the best fastball of the tournament by consistently hitting 91-93 and touching 94 on at least one occasion according to the scoreboard display facing the press box. (Note: TrackMan registered his average fastball velocity at 95.8, or 3-4 mph faster than the consensus of the dozens of handheld Stalker Sport radar guns employed by scouts. TrackMan may measure the velocity at the pitcher's release point whereas radar guns and PITCHf/x estimate velocity at about 50 feet from home plate. There may be an additional explanation as well, which I would enjoy receiving from any expert in this area. In the meantime, the TrackMan leaders can be viewed here.) Giolito was wild with his entire repetoire of pitches (which included a 76-80 mph slurve and what appeared to be either a hard change or a two-seamer with more than decent arm-side run. With additional experience, the 6-5, 215-pound righthander may be able to improve upon his command, which was lacking on Saturday as evidenced by the 24 balls against 23 strikes and four free passes in only two innings. If so, he projects to go early in the 2012 draft.
8-11-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/?p=2704 - Lucas Giolito, rhp, Harvard Westlake HS, Los Angeles - The hardest thrower in Long Beach, Giolito topped out near 96 and tossed 8 pitches that registered 94 or higher. Only 16 years old and a member of the 2012 class, Giolito is a physical beast at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds. Saberhagen was duly impressed. “He has tons of upside, he is lanky and has a great body. He will only get more velocity as he gets older. . . I wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually reaches 97.” Giolito struggled through command problems in his first outing. Saberhagen said, from a mechanical standpoint, that Giolito “needs to be cleaned up a little bit. . . he needs to do a better job of using his lower body." The June 2012 draft is two long years away, however Giolito is an early favorite to be chosen with one of the top 10 selections in that draft.

With a perfect pitcher's frame (6'6"), Giolito has exploded onto the draft scene, bringing along a wealth of mid-90s fastballs with him. He's also got a few impressive videos circulating out there, which have helped to increase the awareness about him nationally. Giolito has a commitment to UCLA and, for the most part, commitments there are pretty solid, so he's going to be one of the classes toughest signs.
7-5-11: - http://diamondscapescouting.com/articles_2011_summercircuit_prospectclassic_07042011.html - Lucas Giolito (rhp, Harvard-Westlake School, Studio City, Calif.) broke out last summer with a high velo showing at the Area Code Games and has maintained momentum through the start of this summer scouting season. The physical righty followed two strong Tournament of Stars showings with a scoreless inning against the USA Collegiate Team, sitting 93-95 mph with life and dropping a hard 80-82 mph 12-to-6 curve into the mix. Giolito is still working to repeat his mechanics, keeping things slow and deliberate while ticking off his checkpoints. While he will still hit patches where he struggles to command, he is generally keeping a consistent arm slot and release point. Giolito profiles as one of the top follows for next year's draft, and possesses the frame and stuff to draw top five overall interest.
7-11-11: - http://diamondprospects.blogspot.com - At 6'7" Lucas Giolito has projectability written all over him. When you see that he already reaches 96 MPH with his fastball and has room to add on 25-30 pounds to his frame, you understand why he is considered one of the top prep prospects for the 2012 Draft. Giolito has a smooth delivery and has taken great strides in repeating it. He also features a power 12-6 curveball that has plus potential and an improving change that features depth and could also be a plus pitch. His command could use some work and he could incorporate his lower half more to help maintain his mechanics. He threw a no-hitter in the spring and it will be interesting to see how he fares with Team USA 18U squad in the fall. No 2012 prep pitcher has more upside than Lucas Giolito and he is definitely one of the top follows over the next year.
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Lucas Giolito, Harvard-Westlake HS, Santa Monica CA, 6’6 220, tall righty with definite arm strength, was up to 95 with FB, most fb were straight and at times would get arm side run in on RHH, front side opens early, some similarities to Mark Prior in delivery, also makings of a hard slider, slurvy action at present, should tighten up to be a plus pitch and makings of change up which he changes his delivery on, so lacks deception on breaking/off-speed pitches. Definitely worth early look next spring, potential top 40 selection.
7-21-11: - http://www.mockdraftmania.com - 4. Baltimore Orioles Lucas Giolito P Harvard Westlake High School California Trey Williams is a top 10 prospect in the 2012 MLB Draft who may go in the top 5. Lucas Giolito managed to strike out Trey Williams in a contest between Harvard Westlake ace Lucas Giolito and Valencia third baseman Trey Williams. Lucas Giolito is bound to go to UCLA unless he goes to the MLB. The Orioles need more pitchers to boost their team ERA and Baltimore is thin on pitching prospects. I’m not sold on Dylan Bundy and I really believe Lucas Giolito could become the ace of the Orioles rotation with the proper development.
8-8-11: - http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/blog?name=mlb_draft&id=6843405&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fmlb%2fblog%3fname%3dmlb_draft%26id%3d6843405 - The best high school pitcher in this draft class is Luc Giolito of Harvard-Westlake HS. The right-hander is committed to UCLA but would likely be the first prep arm off the board if the draft was held right now with his combination of stuff and size. The 6-foot-6, 230-pounder's fastball was up to 96 mph on Sunday, sitting at 93, and he showed a solid changeup at 83-84 as well as two speeds on his breaking ball. The velocity is easy to him and his delivery is built for starting; his command isn't there and he needs more consistency on each of his secondary pitches. But I don't think there's a better overall package among prep arms in the 2012 class yet.
8-15-11: - http://www.draftsite.com/article/High-School-Names-to-Know/94 - Lucas Giolito – RHP HT – 6’6’’ WT – 230 Harvard Westlake (CA) -Coming into the summer it was Lance McCullers in the top spot and everyone else. However, Giolito wasn’t listening and has taken over. He broke out at the end of 2010 during the Area Code games but this summer he ruled everything. At the Tournament of Stars he dominated, pitching in the mid- 90’s with a mid-80’s change and a curveball with sharp bite. His combination of size and stuff has made several scouts push Giolito ahead of McCullers as the top prep arm in the 2012 class and Lucas is now in the running for the number one overall pick.
9-1-11: - http://projectprospect.com/article/2011/08/31/2012-mlb-draft-top-prospects - Lucas Giolito, RHP, Harvard Westlake HS, CA - Giolito has an uncommonly smooth motion for a pitcher with his youth, size, and arm strength. There aren’t many high school pitchers we look at and see teaching points in, but Lucas Giolito has virtually ideal timing in his delivery – a huge, huge deal. You think of pitchers with big arm circles pulling their elbows up high, bending and contorting their bodies in all sorts of silly directions. Everything a pitcher does with his mechanics, good or bad, is for naught if ball isn’t in the driveline as the shoulders start to rotate. There’s only one place a pitcher needs to bring the ball to, which is in a position to be accelerated towards home-plate. A bullet doesn’t do any good until it’s in the barrel. Giolito does this very, very well. He makes throwing hard look easy.

Giolito, a UCLA commit, is going to get plenty of attention this fall. Mark down Jan. 28 on your calendar. That's the day JSerra and Bishop Amat are scheduled to come to Harvard-Westlake's O'Malley Field to play as part of a three-game set that should draw pro scouts en masse.

3-3-11: - Friday’s game was a true pitcher’s duel, and both sophomore (Stanford’s) Mark Appel and (Vanderbilt) junior Sonny Gray brought some good stuff to the table. Personally, I thought Appel had better stuff, but I mean that as a compliment to Gray. Gray definitely didn’t have his A-plus stuff on a very cold Friday night, but he still managed to sneak his way to six strikeouts and give up just one run on three hits. To me, that’s the mark of a good pitcher – a guy who can silence a potent Stanford lineup when he is having control issues with his fastball and he frequently missed the strike zone with first pitches. Gray brought scouts out in droves to see his performance (there were probably 15 to 20 teams there), and even though his pitches weren’t great, his pitching was. http://collegebaseball360.com/2011/03/01/college-baseball-notes-on-vandy-stanford-fullerton-tcu

Was no longer missing bats by the 5th inning. Perfect Game's Kendall Rogers had him as high as 97 MPH: here Breaking ball was a 12-6 variety that lacked consistency: some were tight with sharp break, others less sharp, and some merely spun and stayed up out of the zone Good movement on change-up: some arm-side run with downward action. A swing and miss pitch that Appel used as his primary off-speed.

Change-up has good drop and arm-side fade; hides the pitch well; 84 in the second (via announcer) Control and command wavered throughout the game; works best when in a quick rhythm Fastball seems to induce more hard contact than velocity warrants Sequenced his pitches well to strike a batter out in the second; throwing a tight curve ball on the outside corner for strike two before blowing a fastball by the batter in the same spot Utilized slide step out of the stretch Falls off the mound a bit to the first base side, especially when throwing to that side of the plate
4-25-11: - http://bullpenbanter.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=411:college-baseball-weekend-10-observations&catid=18:articles&Itemid=11 - Tall, ideal pitcher frame with some room to add muscle
3/4 arm slot; smooth, very low effort delivery with a fast arm
Fastball with some arm side run and a downward plane; 97 in the first, 90 — as a "get me over" pitch — in the third, 94 & 92 in the sixth, 89 in the seventh (via announcer)
Hard 12-7 curve ball with late break; can throw for strikes with swing & miss ability
Curve ball was a bit inconsistent and lost the good late break around the fifth inning but still had good shape
Change-up has very good, late action: drop and arm side fade; a couple had ridiculous movement that almost seemed to take a hard right hand (arm side) turn as it approached the hitter
Change-up has swing and miss ability when at its best and ground ball ability when its not
Fastball command was good to start the game but quickly abandoned him and never got it back
Once the fastball continued to prove erratic, Appel switched tactics and pitched heavily off of the change up — using the pitch ~ 65% of the time from the 4th inning on
By that point, the fastball was used sparingly and as a change of pace after attacking hitters with the CH/CB
Commanded the change-up to both sides of the plate; a bit less feel for the curve ball but used it effectively throughout the outing
Paid an exorbitant amount of attention to a base runner — Amaral — in the third inning
Comment: I have yet to see Appel put all of his pitches together in any given outing. The stuff is there for him to be an elite pitching prospect with three plus or better pitches. I was impressed with how well he adapted to a lack of fastball command in this look. He went through phases where he threw predominantly fastballs then curve balls before finding consistency with the change-up. Perhaps the best I can say about him is that he was not dwarfed by Gerrit Cole

He's coming off of a stellar season in which he's won six games (so far), posted a 3.02 ERA and struck out 83 batters in a team-leading 104.1 innings. He helped guide Stanford into super-regional play with a seven-hit complete game in the NCAA opener against Kansas State. He struck out eight in the game and walked none. Last year as a freshman, the 6'5", 190 pound right-hander had a tough year pitching out of Stanford's bullpen. He was hit hard (44 H, 25 R in 38 IP) and finished the year with a 5.92 ERA and almost as many walks (19) as strikeouts (24). He didn't let a disappointing first-year campaign keep him down though. He traveled, along with Diekroeger, to the New England Collegiate League and dominated, posting a 6-1 record and a 1.87 ERA, earning top prospect honors. Appel has all the tools to end up as a top five pick. He has the easy velocity that can produce 97 mph bullets, although he sits more comfortably in the 92-95 mph range. He has a very impressive slider and also throws a changeup and a cutter—a pitch becoming more and more popular amongst younger pitchers these days. One thing scouts are always looking for is excellent arm speed, and Appel has that too

7-21-11: - http://www.mockdraftmania.com - 3. Kansas City Royals Mark Appel P Stanford The Kansas City Royals are in the bottom 5 in only one category. That category is team ERA. The Royals have the lowest payroll in MLB and usually lean towards the best player available. Mark Appel is a 6 foot 5 190 pound pitcher who pitches for the Stanford Cardinal. Last year Mark Appel was the top starter in the schools rotation. Appel only surrendered 2 home runs all season. Appel struck out 86 batters and went 6-7 while posting a 3.02 ERA after posting a 5.92 ERA as a freshman. The fact that his ERA was lowered by 2 runs is very impressive. Appel pitched a minimum of 6 innings in all 15 of his starts so consistency is a non issue with Appel. Appel pitched over 100 innings pitching 104.1 innings as a sophomore.
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Mark Appel, Stanford, 6’5 190, nice arm and build, some cross body, fb are true and hittable, will run fb up to 95, most are 92 and straight, hard cb that at times is very sloppy, other times falls off the table, work with mechanics in pro ball should help him. Potential top 5 candidate for 1st round in 2012.
7-31-11: - http://orioles-nation.com/2011/07/28/scouting-the-cape-cod-league-mark-appel - Appel’s fastball sits easily in the 94-95 mph range and he dialed it up to 97 mph on his debut night. As with most of his arsenal, he commands this pitch rather well, keeping the ball down in the zone constantly. The fastball was fouled off even in hitters counts when they knew it was coming. Guys had trouble getting square contact and even when hit hard, they were ground balls that would have been eaten up in the professional ranks. I have seen him dial it up to 98 mph in other encounters and others have seen him hit 99 mph. With additional lower half strength and weight gain, he may sit in the 96 mph range with the four-seam fastball.

5-9-11: - http://bullpenbanter.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=417:college-baseball-weekend-12-observations&catid=18:articles&Itemid=11 - Tall with a tightly wound torso, some shoulder development, thin thighs and long, thin arms; room to add muscle

Very big fastball with good downward plane and late arm side run; 95 in the first, 95 in the second, 95 in the sixth & 97 in the seventh (via announcer)
Fastball continued to show good velocity and movement late into the outing
Hitters seemed geared up for the fastball and made more contact with the pitch than you'd expect; induced many ground balls; did occasionally blow the pitch by a hitter
Change-up has hard downward movement that mimics a splitter when thrown down out of the zone; good late action
Change-up shows excellent action at times; when thrown in the zone it has arm side fade and drop
Change-up has big swing and miss ability both in and out of the zone; Alabama hitters flailed at the pitch for the majority of the outing
In one sequence, he got three consecutive swinging strikes on change-ups for strikeout; the first on the outside corner thigh high, gradually working his way down with each pitch
Hard 12-7 downer curve ball, showed excellent 2 plane break when thrown well
Curve ball was very inconsistent, only breaking one off that showed its true potential
Slider is hard with mostly downward 1-7 movement; least refined secondary pitch
Most sliders didn't have great shape, with only one looking like an actual slider; the other few just sort of went down into the dirt with some cut action rather than spin
Attacked the zone throughout the outing, showing solid command of fastball
Excellent command of the change-up throughout the outing, relied on it as his out pitch
Good, quick pick off move
6-10-11: - http://lsubaseball.posterous.com/lsu-pitcher-kevin-gausman-named-to-usa-colleg LSU freshman pitcher Kevin Gausman was named Friday to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. The team is comprised of the top collegiate baseball players in the country, and it will compete this summer in a schedule of exhibition games against the world's top baseball talent. Gausman, a right-hander from Centennial, Colo. finished the 2011 regular season ranked No. 2 in the SEC in opponent batting average (.215) and No. 4 in the league in strikeouts (86). He was named SEC Freshman of the Week after firing a four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts against Tennessee on May 13.

His command of both pitches allowed him to blossom into LSU's most impressive pitcher in 2011. The right-hander made a team-high 14 starts, winning five. He posted a respectable 3.51 ERA and held a 86:23 K:BB ratio in a team-leading 89.2 innings. Batters only hit .215 off of him and he served up only five home runs all season. His finest performance came in an early season outing against Tennessee. He tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering four hits and striking out seven. He walked none. Gausman should be a top ten pick in 2012, thanks not only to his velocity and developing secondary pitches, but also to his very prototypical pitcher's body. At 6'4" and 185 pounds, he still has plenty of room to add some more weight (increasing his durability and stamina). Another season of pitching in college baseball's toughest conference should give him all the seasoning he needs to make the jump to pro ball.
6-29-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250695/the-all-reese-team#storyjump - RHS: Kevin Gausman, Freshman from Louisiana State University - Gausman was a guy I liked coming out of high school, and he certainly did not disappoint me. His fastball is huge, delivered on a good downward plane with late arm side run that results in plenty of ground balls. He held his velocity late into the outings that I watched, and he has projection left in that frame. His change-up was the real surprise. He wasn't known for having one in high school, but he relied heavily on a devastating change with late split action this year. The curve ball shows good hard two-plane break at times but is not yet a consistent pitch. The slider is his least refined offering. Honorable Mention: Andrew Triggs, Junior from the University of Southern California
7-9-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012 - Gausman is a little more mature than most of the players we’be both seen. He adjusted to college ball easily moving from the mile high air and was told to pitch inside more which helped him, plus the fact he already had a nice breaking ball and his trajectory of pitches being 6’5 plus helped him a lot. What hasn’t been seen at least for me this year was the 98 mph on his fb he showed me as a HS jr, senior to be. He’ll be a second yr college pitcher next spring and draft eligible by age, so he’ll be a front runner for early round draft talk for certain. Progression for me would be better control and better command of his pitches, also an increase in velo, none of the three were shown to me this year thus far, but anything could change by next spring, LOL. Could be a remake of Anthony Renaudo, who I think will be a pretty good pitcher, starter? closer? More like a middle guy or 4th or 5th man in a rotation, which isn’t bad, but I don’t see dominance like an Alex Meyer showed this year after two rough springs at UK. We’ll see though. Lots of summer left! LOL –
7-9-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=6002 - Kevin Gausman, RHP, LSU - One of the most projectable pitchers available in the 2010 draft class, Gausman went unsigned as the Dodgers' sixth-round pick honoring his commitment to LSU. With a relatively unexperienced Tigers staff, he was asked to step in immediately during his freshman year to contribute as a weekend starter, and performed admirably. He has flirted with triple digits since topping out at 94 at both the 2009 National Showcase and the Aflac All-American Classic the same summer, and continues to have one of the highest upsides of any player eligible for next year's draft as a draft-eligible sophomore.
7-21-11: - http://www.mockdraftmania.com - 11. Florida Marlins Kevin Gausman P LSU Gausman led the team innings pitched for LSU last season. Kevin Gausman managed to pitch 89.2 innings for the LSU Tigers in 15 starts. With an improvement of his mechanics and change up pitch Kevin Gausman has the tools to be a top 10 pick now.
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Kevin Gausmann, LSU, 6’5 1/2 210, tall righty with potential to excel in pro ball, needs work with consistency in release points, but you can not teach his 95 mph fb, also hard cb that shows chance to be abv ave if he can harness the command needed at the next level. Top 10 talk already!
9-1-11: - http://projectprospect.com/article/2011/08/31/2012-mlb-draft-top-prospects - Kevin Gausman, RHP, Louisiana State University - The epitome of a 'live-loose-arm', the first thing that jumped out about Gausman was arm strength generated from a very sound motion. That motion has been tweaked over the past year. Gausman's arm action is a bit different. His first movement after he takes the ball out of his glove is down to his hip then straight up to a very high arm angle. Gasuman keeps his weight back very late into his stride and hS excellent hip rotation, but this new arm action has resulted in what looks like slightly worse timing than in the past
9-16-11: - http://denver.sbnation.com/colorado-rockies/2011/9/16/2429660/2012-mlb-draft-top-50-kevin-gasuman - Though he was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the sixth round of the 2010 MLB Draft, Colorado native Kevin Gausman went to the Southeast and joined the LSU Tigers baseball team. The Grandview High School product had a solid debut for the Tigers, going 5-6 with a 3.51 ERA in 14 starts. He struck out 86 in 90 innings and held opposing batters to a .215 average. He will be a draft-eligible sophomore for the 2012 MLB Draft and is already receiving high praise from Baseball America in its early 2012 MLB Draft preview. The 6-foot-4 right-hander is the No. 7 prospect right now and is described thusly:
9-23-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/9/22/2441104/top-50-draft-prospects-for-the-2012-mlb-draft#comments - Gausman, Jeff, throws two fb, 4 seamer he can cut and two seamer that has tail and sink, no slider and 1/7 would be a lefties’ breaking action, his breaking ball I call a slurve from 11/5 action from the hitters looking at his arm slot window, his straight change at times does have dive and fade, you pointed out the flaw, inconsistent, thus only giving him 2 pitches right now, if the change gets better this fall into next spring, that will be a plus. Beck has 3 plus pitches right now and 55 command/control, much like Drew Storen who made a quick leap to the ML for the Nationals. Gausman is a top 10 guy now, some other arms may pass him quickly next spring though, Renaudo was a top 5 candidate before arm woes in 2010
4) RHP Lance McCullers Jr.

6-29-10 from: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/high-school/?p=192 - The highlight of Saturday came during the fourth game with AABC and PONY vying for a spot in Sunday's bronze medal game. Starting for PONY was Lance McCullers Jr., a well-known prospect for 2012, son of an ex-big leaguer and already a favorite among a couple Baseball America staffers. McCullers is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound infielder/righthander from Jesuit High in Tampa. I first saw McCullers—along with dozens of scouts and recruiters—at the World Wood Bat Championships in Jupiter, Fla. in 2008. He was an incoming freshman then and hadn't thrown a varsity pitch yet. He had an 88-90 mph fastball and also showed a nasty curveball. Almost a year later he made an appearance at USA Baseball's National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. for the Labor Day Cup for Florida Travel Ball, his summer team. He showed the same nasty curve with a little more velocity and ran his fastball up to 94.

McCullers is also an athletic infielder with with power potential from the left side.
8-16-10 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/8/16/1625615/2010-under-armour-all-american#storyjump - Lance McCullers, Jr., RHP/IF, Jesuit HS (Fla.) Committed to Florida as another top 2012 prospect, McCullers woke up a relatively dead crowd in the fourth inning on the mound on Saturday – reaching back and pumping 95-97 mph heat. Obviously, the arm was the best of the day, and he was able to showcase his 83-85 power curveball as well. Both pitches have plus to plus-plus potential. The only downside on this day was his control and command, which graded out as below-average. He could have just been trying to do too much as a younger kid at a national event full of older players, so he’ll get a pass for now. The arm action is pretty long, so I’m curious to see how the control develops in the next couple years. Also a top prospect as an infielder, McCullers has some big-time raw power in his swing as well. But, my gut feeling based on what I saw on Saturday sees him as a pitcher down the road if he can correct a few mechanical errors.
8-16-10: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=130 - Lance McCullers Jr., RHP, Jesuit HS (FL)- A 2012 grad, McCullers featured the most impressive stuff of any pitcher in the game. He has two potential plus-plus pitches. He ran his fastball up to 97, and sat in the 94-96 range. He walked one, and hit two batters to load the bases, but got out of the inning by striking out Mason Robbins, and getting game MVP Brandon Nimmo to line out to first. His command needs to improve, but he will only be a junior this season. McCullers is one of the best pitchers in the country, regardless of class.
8-29-10 from: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2010/8/16/1625615/2010-under-armour-all-american#comments – McCullers was impressive but raw. Absolutely no feel for the breaking ball in this inning. I see why he gets dinged as not having much projectability left — he’s pretty well-proportioned and doesn’t have a lanky frame at all — but he definitely has room to get stronger, which is scary as he was 94 all day. He’s definitely a Sonny Gray type, where the lack of size scares you
8-14-10 from: - http://www.5tooltalk.com/notes-mainpage.html - As noted above, no one matched McCullers heat. He sat at 94 and touched 95 twice. The arm strength and overall delivery are pretty easy, and he also mixed in a violent hard downer low-80s curve that had some slurve-like two-plane to it at times. He threw too many breaking balls, and likely would have enjoyed a much more crisp inning had he thrown more fastballs. He walked and hit a batter and he struck out both Nick Delmonico and Mason Robbins on fastballs. It’s going to be hard to determine how to develop this young man, a debate scouts will likely have for nearly two years.

There is a strong chance that he will go No. 1 overall, breaking the mold and becoming the first high school pitcher ever tabbed with the No. 1 pick. McCullers could have fit in very well with the 2011 draft class, seeing as how he's a diminutive pitcher around the same size as Trevor Bauer. In addition to his mid-to-high-90s heat, McCullers also features a hammer curveball that should be a plus pitch as a pro. He's also been throwing a changeup, and the pitch has considerable promise. One thing that might put a damper on McCullers' prospects on the mound is his ability at the plate and in the field, where he moonlights as Jesuit's power-hitting shortstop. In the field, he has shown more than enough arm to handle the position and is more fluid than you would expect a pitcher to be. His footwork is impressive as well. At the plate, he has a sweet left-handed swing that oozes with raw power. He has tapped into it in games, but could really take off if he would give up a career on the mound. And of course, McCullers has the lineage working in his favor. His dad was a seven-year MLB veteran who pitched for the Padres, Yankees, Tigers and Rangers.
6-19-11: - per Twitter - PGPatrickEbert - 2012 #mlbdraft prospect Lance McCullers throws 97, 97 and 98 with his 1st 3 pitches here at the PG National, also throws nasty 86 curveball
6-20-11: - http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/2011/06/pg-national-ends-on-a-high-note-with-mccullers - McCullers threw 22 fastballs today: five at 94 mph, seven at 95, six at 96 and four at 97. He throws both a curveball and a slider. There is a subtle difference in the velocity—the curveball is 83-84 mph and the slider is 86-87—but the pitches blend together a bit with hard, late break. McCullers said he has been hitting the gym to add muscle to his 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame, mostly focusing on strengthening his legs and core. The improved strength showed up on the mound today, as McCullers looked more balanced than he has in the past. He was sticking his landing pretty well instead of falling off or overthrowing and the adjustment allowed him to throw more strikes.
6-25-11: - http://mlbdraftguide.com/1/2011/06/23/lance-mccullers-jr-2012-draft-profile - Lance McCullers Jr. has been on the prospect map for a long time and is in line to be one of the first players selected in the 2012 draft. He is ranked numer 1 in Perfect Game’s Top 200 Draft Prospects for 2012. McCullers, whose father pitched in the Majors for 7 seasons, is a two way prospect, but his future is clearly on the mound. McCullers has great stuff and good command. His fastball sits 94-97 with some reports as high as 99. He also throws a power curve and a quality change. All three project as plus pitches. He has a fast, loose arm and uses a 3/4 arm slot. McCullers has the stuff and the competitive drive to excel at the next level.

7-21-11: - http://www.mockdraftmania.com - 1. Houston Astros Lance McCullers Jr. P Tampa Jesuit High School Florida I said back in March that the Astros would finish in last place instead of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Looks like I was right on that call while the rest of the country is shocked by the Pirates being in contention this season. To be honest, I’m not that surprised by the Pirates this season. I said back in March that the Pirates would win 70 games and have the division lead at some point in the MLB season. Every other MLB expert, sports personality, or Pirates fan never in their right mind would have picked the Pirates to win 70 games let alone be in contention for first place this late in the season.

Definite type of arm strength to be considered top 10 in first round for 2012.
8-15-11: - http://www.draftsite.com/article/High-School-Names-to-Know/94 - Lance McCullers – RHP/SS HT -6’2’’ WT -195 Tampa Jesuit (FL) -For a while it seemed like McCullers would have an easy ride as the top prep arm and possibly all the way to the top overall pick. However, he has been hit a little harder than usual this year and Lucas Giolito has jumped ahead of him in the rankings. But don’t get it twisted, McCullers is still a top three prospect. He is an impressive athlete, who also plays shortstop. He can get it up to 98 mph and pairs it with a filthy mid 80’s curve, along with a developing change. He also has the bloodlines that scouts love so much as his dad pitched in the Majors for seven seasons with the Padres in the 80’s. In an interesting move, McCullers chose to stick with his AAU team this summer instead of playing for Team USA – giving scouts more looks at Giolito. He will no doubt get a chance to start at the next level but his frame and delivery now have some scouts wondering if he would be better suited for closing; Just one more thing to monitor during his senior season.
9-1-11: - http://projectprospect.com/article/2011/08/31/2012-mlb-draft-top-prospects - Lance McCullers Jr., RHP, Tampa Jesuit HS, FL - McCullers' arm action has some length thanks to a huge degree of scapular loading present in the pick-up phase of his delivery. It is a little atypical, think Daniel Hudson except from a 3/4 arm angle, but not necessarily a bad thing. He appears to have pretty good timing, strong hip rotation, and keeps his front side closed pretty well. He throws with some effort, which again isn't always a bad thing. There will be some who want to knock McCullers' mechanics but, unless we see something different in the future, we won't be among them.

9-27-11: - http://legendsoftomorrow.blogspot.com/2011/09/lance-mccullers-son-of-gun.html - Lance Jr. has pretty much hit the ground running. As a sophomore, he was throwing 96 on the radar gun, not unlike the self proclaimed messiah of baseball, Bryce Harper. Like Bryce, he's a two-way star, as he plays infield too, but its widely believed that McCullers will wind up a pitcher, like his father. Since going to Tampa Jesuit, McCullers has left behind a trail of awards and top amateur team selections. He was the 2009 MaxPreps Freshman of the Year, was named to several Perfect Game USA all star teams, played in the 2011 Baseball Factory Under Armour All American game at Wrigley Field as the only non-senior, and was named a Louisville Slugger All American Honorable mention. He's committed to pitching for the University of Florida, but don't expect him to go unless Scott Boras takes him under his wing, which is highly likely.

Ranked #32 in the 2012 Prospects List compiled by the All-American Athletic Foundation http://allamericanfoundation.pointstreaksites.com/view/allamericanfoundation/news/mlb-2012-draft
Tall with wide shoulders and some more room to add to frame
High 3/4 arm slot, high leg kick; whippy arm action
Fastball has big velocity on a downward plane with late arm side run
Fastball seemed to explode out of his hand early in the game but it wasn't quite as big of a pitch by the middle innings
Those that chased the fastball up out of the zone had little chance of catching up to it, but hitters put it in play when lower in the zone
Curve ball has a touch of two-plane break, 12-7 movement; good, consistent shape but lacked sharpness
Used his curve ball primarily as a surprise pitch to steal strikes early in the count; only threw about a handful in the outing
Change-up mirrors his fastball with late arm side fade and some drop
Change-up action was a bit inconsistent early but improved throughout the outing
Threw the change-up with authority, keeping his arm speed well; very good deception and proved to be his primary swing and miss pitch
Through the first 4 innings, Wacha's control was mediocre, rarely hitting his spots with the fastball and having it sail on him a number of times
Fastball induced a good bit of fly ball contact as a result of the poor command
In the 5th inning, he showed much better command of his fastball and change up, pounding the lower portion of the zone; ground balls and strikeouts started to prevail
Worked very quickly and attacked hitters even when he didn't have his good command
Pick off move is quick and compact despite his size
Comment: When his command is right, Wacha shows the ability to dominate with his fastball/change-up tandem with the curve ball strewn in irregularly. He moves both pitches around the zone well and looks completely in control. When the command isn't right, both pitches are still good enough offerings for him to get away with it. He does catch a bit too much of the plate at times, but I'd rather have that than a guy that nibbles. He's not quite on par with Gausman or Appel, but Wacha should be a highly drafted pitcher in the 2012 class.

What’s even harder to comprehend is how major league teams could have missed on Wacha when he was coming out of high school. He went undrafted, despite having an ideal frame (6'6", 180 lbs) and great athleticism (three-year letter-winner in basketball). It’s not likely that teams will miss on him in 2012, when he’s projected to be a first-round pick and potentially a top-10 selection.
7-21-11: - http://www.mockdraftmania.com - 14. Washington Nationals Michael Wacha P Texas A/M Wacha went 9-2 with a 2.90 ERA for Texas A/M as a freshman. Wacha would be another prospect that the Nationals could add to their system. Its scary to think what this Nationals rotation is capable of if Strasburg recovers while their 2011 draft picks like Alex Meyer and Matt Purke pan out. I really don’t think Purke will sign because he wants a major payday. Purke was a frontrunner to go #1 overall in 2011 before a major regression.
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments – Michael Wacha, Texas A&M, 6’6 190, a bit funky with arm action in back swing but gets people out and will show low 90’s fb all the way into 9th inning, has upside to gain more strength and good pitchability, tough straight change that is plus and hard downer cb that will get better in time.
8-2-11: - http://bullpenbanter.com - I saw Texas A&M's Michael Wacha pitch in Newport against the NECBL's Gulls for the Team USA Collegiate National Team. Wacha is entering his Jr. season in the spring. Very impressive pitcher. Big kid (6'6", 195 lbs). Righthander. Works low 90's with a 2 seam FB that has a little arm side run... and his size gives reason to think he'll end up a few ticks higher. Best pitch is a diving CU. The grip looks like a circle change to me but action is down and tumbling with little/no screwball movement. He throws some filthy CUs in his pre game pen on this video. Wacha's breaking balls were sometimes loopy/slurvy, but he commanded the CB fairly well and can throw it for strikes. He keeps the ball in the strikezone and on the ground. Wacha is probably a 1st rounder in the 2012 MLB Draft and with a strong season I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in the top 10.

Barrett will undoubtedly be one of the top arms to watch for in the 2012 season, but unfortunately the season will likely be a wash for the Sun Devils, who face the possibility of being suspended from postseason play for some off-the-field transgressions committed by the previous coaching staff. That might make it hard for Barrett to channel all of his ability, but if he can string together some nice starts, he could be right in line for a top five selection. Toronto was so high on him back in 2009 because he had a big-league body (6'3", 225 lbs), a good fastball (90-94 mph) and two pitches (curveball and splitter) with above-average potential. He showed great poise stepping into a very talented bullpen during his freshman year, pitching to a 3.41 ERA in 28 outings and striking out 43 batters in 29.1 innings. This year, Barrett made the jump to the rotation and found instant success. His first start of the season saw him toss six-innings of shutout ball, giving up only three hits while striking out six. He finished the season with a 7-4 record, a 4.14 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 76 innings. He tossed one complete-game shutout against Cal late in the season. The Royals have made a habit of taking some pretty high-ceiling high schoolers over the past few seasons, but they have made an effort to take some pretty seasoned college players too—ones they know will be able to contribute as early as 2013, when the crux of their farm system will be big-league ready. Barrett is going to be one of the most big-league ready of any of the college pitchers in the 2012 class, making him a perfect fit.
7-21-11: - http://www.mockdraftmania.com - 9. Minnesota Twins Jake Barrett P Arizona State Jake Barrett is the best player available. Barrett could go anywhere between picks 4 and 10. Barrett has the size to be a starting pitcher at 6 foot 3 225 pounds. There are some off the field concerns with Barrett’s character. Barrett posted a winning record, but had a bad ERA. The mechanics and pitching control are two areas he needs to work on. Barrett recorded 72 strike outs in 76 innings during the 2011 season. Barrett has a 4 seamer that is 94 miles per hour along with a 90 mile per hour 2 seamer. Barrett also has the curveball and splitter that could develop into complimentary pitches.
8) RHP Walker Weikel
6-19-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=5909 - Walker Weickel followed Fulmer, and was arguably the most impressive pitcher so far during the National Showcase. He has a tall, strong and still projectable frame. He threw 92-93 consistently touching 94, and threw two very effective secondary offerings in his mid-70s curveball and low-80s changeup. The speed differential and his ability to throw all of his pitches for strikes gives Weickel a near flawless repertoire.
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Walker Weickel, Olympia HS, Orlando Fl, 6’6 195, top 15 candidate for 2012 MLB Draft, up to 93 this spring, not real overpowering but is deceptive and is unhittable when breaking ball is on, comes at you slightly cross his body from H 3/4 slow, can fill out to 220 in time.
8-12-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/AllAmerican/News.aspx?num=6123 – Right-hander Walker Weickel tossed the second inning for the East, throwing what was described by David Rawnsley as a "typical easy Weickel inning." He was 89-91 with a big, slow 71 curve.

10-1-11: - http://mlbdraftguide.com/1/2011/10/01/walker-weickel-2012-draft-profile - Prep righthander Walker Weickel is one of the top arms eligible for the 2012 draft. He is big, athletic, and projectable. Weickel has a high 3/4 to over the top delivery. He does an excellent job of pitching downhill. His delivery creates some deception. Weickel throws a low 90′s fastball that has hit 94. Some additional velocity should come as he matures. He has a low 70′s curve that is a potential plus pitch but is still somewhat inconsistent. His low 80′s change also shows flashes of plus potential. Weickel is almost assured of being selected in the first round and could land among the top 10 selections
9) RHP Marcus Stroman

6-8-11: - http://www.wralsportsfan.com/duke/story/9702563 - Duke pitcher and infielder Marcus Stroman has been selected to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. A 5-9, 185-pound right-hander, Stroman was Duke’s top pitcher as a sophomore, logging a 2.80 ERA over 64.1 innings. He ranked third in the nation with 12.60 strikeouts per nine innings, trailing only No. 2 MLB Draft Pick Danny Hultzen of Virginia and No. 3 MLB Draft Pick Gerritt Cole of UCLA in that category. Stroman served as a reliever and starter for the Blue Devils, posting a 3-4 record and four saves over eight starts and nine relief appearances. 7-9-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=6002 - Marcus Stroman, RHP/IF, Duke - Entering the day recording 16 of the 20 outs via strikeout, Stroman was arguably the most exciting player on the Collegiate National Team. He generates unusual 93-94 mph velocity for a 5-foot-9, 175-pound athlete that also has served as an infielder at both the high school and college levels. His nasty low-80s slider is also a plus pitch, and after he was named the ACC Freshman of the Year for Duke in 2010, he went on to be named a Cape All-Star last summer by recording 11 saves in 11 chances for the Orleans Firebirds. Stroman earned high praise at the 2008 National Showcase for his five-tool potential and electric arm on the mound, and received MVP honors for Team USA in the series against Team Japan.
7-21-11: - Duke rising junior RHP/infielder Marcus Stroman spent this summer as a member of the USA Collegiate National Team. He appeared in seven games totaling 8.1 innings of innings without giving up a single hit while walking one batter. This is the second straight summer that Stroman has impressed as in 2010, he played with the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod League. He didn’t give up a run then either in 15 appearances (one start) in 25.0 innings pitched. He allowed 10 hits while striking out 32 batters. GoDuke.com recently caught up with Marcus to discuss his summer experience this year. - http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/2011/07/20/dukes-marcus-stroman-continues-to-impress/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+CollegeBaseballDaily+%28College+Baseball+Daily%29

11) Chris Beck:
8-3-11: - http://mlbdraftguide.com/1/2011/08/02/chris-beck-2012-draft-profile - When people think of the 2012 draft and Georgia Southern, Victor Roache is the player that immediately comes to mind. Georgia Southern does have another quality draft prospect in Chris Beck. He put up good numbers during the 2011 season and finished strong, being named the Southern Conference Tournament Most Outstanding Player. In the tournament, Beck won both of his starts and recorded 22 strikeouts. He has capitalized upon that success by putting together an All-Star season at the Cape. Beck throws a mid-90′s fastball, from 92-96. He also throws a slider 81-84 and a change 80-83. Playing on the same team as Roache will give Beck plenty of opportunities to impress scouts in the spring.
12) RHP Kayden Porter
Kayden Porter is a 2012 RHP/1B with a 6-5 240 lb. frame from Spanish Fork, UT who attends Spanish Fork HS. Extra large build, very strong. Calm delivery, high 3/4's release point, stays on line and balance, has made positive delivery adjustments over the last year.. Steady low 90's fastball, mostly straight but works downhill. Works backwards and threw mostly off speed stuff early. Good split finger change with tumble, occasionally has slider type break on split, soft curveball, flashes bite but tends to slow arm speed. Needs to challenge with fastball and intimidate hitters. Shows plus power at the plate, big swing, open stance, looking to lift and pull. Very good student, verbal commitment to North Carolina. In the first round he blasted 13 bombs and hit one 474 feet; eventually he would make it all the way to the finals falling short but he showed what he could do. His performance got everyone so amped up that one publication asked if he was the next Bryce Harper. He used a metal bat in the event but the talent is true and he has shown himself as someone to watch

I think he is actually a little shorter than 6'1" and a little heavier but that being said, I love his stuff and how he goes about his business. He reminds me in some ways of Astros RHP Bud Norris when he was younger, with his bulldog demeanor and good aggressive use of his stuff. Poteet was 88-91 mph with the fastball that comes out with good down angle from his overhand slot. He also has a hard 77-78 mph curveball that was about as good as any curveball I saw in Long Beach. At times it was a hammer and is a legitimate swing and miss pitch.
14) Duane Underwood
Ranked #88 in the 2012 Prospects List compiled by the All-American Athletic Foundation http://allamericanfoundation.pointstreaksites.com/view/allamericanfoundation/news/mlb-2012-draft
7-6-11: - http://mlbdraftguide.com/1/2011/07/06/duane-underwood-2012-draft-profile - Duane Underwood is a legitimate two way prospect from Georgia. Many believe that Underwood’s future will be on the diamond, but playing outfield is a legitimate option. Underwood uses a 3/4 release point. He has a low 90′s fastball that has reached up to 94. He also feautures a hard curve. At the plate, Underwood has good bat speed and some power potential. Underwood is a strong defender in the outfield. He has good range and a strong, accurate arm. Underwood is a strong athlete and has a 6.84 time in the 60.
7-30-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=6082 - Duane Underwood (2012 RHP/OF, East Cobb Astros 16u)- PG was first introduced to Duane Underwood at the 16U National Championship in 2009. Underwood was a primary OF for the Georgia Blue Jays, and he made a mildly positive impression with his bat. The scouting notes on Underwood from that event read: “high hands, late start, athletic, quick hands, spins out on curveball, runs well.” The pitching notes were more positive on the secondary RHP who sat 82-84, topping out at 86, throwing all fastballs. Underwood showed enough raw talent to be invited to the 2010 Jr National Showcase, where he touched 89 mph on the radar gun and flashed potential with both his curveball and slider and a much improved swing. In 2011 Underwood absolutely blew us (and opposing hitters) away with his ability on the mound. With significantly improved mechanics Underwood’s live arm now routinely generates low-mid 90s velocity, touching 96 on the PG gun with sharp downhill plane. One of the best power arms in the country, Underwood’s bat is almost as impressive and he’s a big time two-way prospect who will be representing the East team at the PG All-American Game on August 14.
8-12-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/AllAmerican/News.aspx?num=6123 – Duane Underwood continues to establish himself as one of the top rising right-handers in the 2012 class. Sophomore Branden Kline got the win for Virginia, improving to 4-1. He pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit. Kline, a 2009 sixth-round draft pick by the Red Sox, has pitched the last two years out of the bullpen, saving a combined 20 games. This year he has posted a 49:18 K:BB ratio and a 2.15 ERA in 30 contests. Kline has good size (6'3", 190) and is a former Louisville Slugger Maryland State Player of the Year. He throws in the low-to-mid 90s and complements his fastball with a curveball and a slider. He has already proven himself as a reliever, and with the Hultzen and Wilson departing, along with Will Roberts and Cody Winiarski, Kline might finally get his shot as a starter.
7-21-11: - http://mlbdraftguide.com/1/2011/07/21/branden-kline-2012-draft-profile -Branden Kline was one of the top college closers in 2011 and is set to serve as Virginia’s Friday night starter in 2012. A long armed righthander, Kline has the command and stuff to be an elite level starter. He uses an overhand arm slot and has a good downward angle on his fastball. Kline’s fastball sits in the low to mid 90′s. A plus slider is his top secondary pitch. Kline’s curve and change are aslo quality pitches.

6-12-11: - http://mlbdraftguide.com/1/2011/06/12/ty-hensley-2012-draft-profile - Ty Hensley is a two way player from Oklahoma who figures to make a living with his right arm. He is a big, strong righthander and looks like a future workhorse. Hensley’s father, Michael, pitched for the University of Oklahoma and spent three seasons playing in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. On the mound, Hensley has a high 3/4 arm slot and short arm action. His fastball sits in the low 90′s, as high as 94, and more velocity should come. He has a sharp curve that is a potential plus to plus-plus offering. He also has a developing change that should be a quality offering. Hensely is a prospect at catcher as well. He shows good power at the plate. At the start of his high school career, Hensley played both football and baseball, but gave up football to concentrate solely on baseball

Rodgers allowed consecutive no-out singles in the second inning, but settled down to retire the next seven batters before allowing a one-out single in the fourth. However, he induced the next batter into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. The righty, making his Team USA debut, ended the game with 68 pitches, of which 50 went for strikes. He picked up the win after striking out two and is 1-0.
7-9-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=6002 - Brady Rodgers, RHP, Arizona State - The theme of teammates continues to grace the Collegiate National Team's roster, with 22 players coming from only 13 different schools. Rodgers of course plays with Deven Marrero at Arizona State, and was part of a talented recruiting class that included current Sun Devils Jake Barrett, Andrew Aplin and Alex Blackford. Rodgers is known more for his command than his raw stuff, and took the mound in the first game as mentioned above. He threw strikes and worked the bottom half of the zone with a 88-91 fastball, a sharp 12-to-6 curveball and a changeup that sat around 80 mph.

He is aggressive on the mound and shows an ability to hit the corners on both sides of the plate. Burr throws in the low 90′s, usually from 91-93 and topping out at 94. 30) RHP Kyle Hansen
4-19 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/04/19/big-east-baseball-honors - Red Storm freshman Kyle Hansen (2012) earned BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week recognition after leading St. John’s to a series-clinching victory in Game 3 over Cincinnati. Hansen tallied a career-high 12 strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work in a 7-1 win at Cincinnati on April 18. The righthander allowed four hits on the day, all of which were singles and three of which were hit during the first inning. Hansen kept batters hitless after the first through the eighth inning. He improved to 4-1 on the season. This is Hansen’s first Pitcher of the Week honor and the first for a St. John’s pitcher since May 18, 2008. He is also the first freshman to earn the recognition since March 10, 2008.
6-4-10 from: - http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/MLB_Draft - Hansen is younger brother of former No. 1 pick Craig Hansen, whom the Red Sox selected with the 26th pick overall in 2005. Following in his brother's footsteps at St. John's, the 6-7 195-pounder looks like a string bean, but little about his repertoire is thin. Like his brother Craig, Hansen runs his fastball into the low to mid-90s, with excellent sink. He generates tremendous leverage with his height and length, pitching on a good downward plane. His breaking ball is fringe above-average, sort of a slurvy pitch in the 76-79 mph range which bodes for a freshman, as improvement is clearly and easily attainable for him.

He shows flashes of dominance that could land him near the top of draft boards. Hansen throws his fastball from 89-92 and could add velocity as he fills out. His fastball has good sink. He throws a slider, at 79-80, that shows plus potential. Hansen also throws a change, at 81-82, and an occasional cutter. Hansen uses a 3/4 arm slot and sometimes has trouble with his command
31) D.J. Baxendale
5-10-11: - http://nwahomepage.com/fulltext-news/?nxd_id=238167 - Arkansas sophomore pitcher DJ Baxendale has been selected to the 22-man roster for the 2011 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, it was announced on Tuesday morning. A native of Jacksonville, Ark., Baxendale is one of the most versatile pitchers in college baseball, seeing time in both the Razorbacks’ starting rotation and in the bullpen. Baxendale currently ranks third in the SEC with a 1.58 ERA and has a 7-1 record with two saves in 14 appearances, including eight starts. In 57 innings pitched this season, Baxendale has given up 14 runs, only 10 earned, and struck out 53 batters, while issuing 11 walks. Opponents are hitting just .226 against the sophomore right hander.

When I have seen Baxendale, his fastball has been 88-91 with good movement. His secondary pitches are a sharp curve and a change with the curve being his top offering. Baxendale also worked on a cutter at the Cape in 2010.
6-25-11: - http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/2011/06/25/usa-baseball-sweeps-doubleheader-on-Friday - DJ Baxendale (Arkansas) started and worked five innings for Team USA. His lone blemish on the night was an 0-1 pitch to David Perkins in the fifth that the left fielder connected on for a two-run home run over the left field fence. It sent Mystic to a 2-0 lead. Baxendale struck out six and issued just one walk – immediately before Perkins’ home run – but did not figure in the decision.

Randall was an all-everybody freshman last year, winning eight games and posting a 3.24 ERA. This year he stepped it up a notch, winning 10 games and posting a minuscule 2.29 ERA. He is not, and never will be, a big strikeout guy (only 62 K in 110 IP), but he’s also got great control (12 BB). He’s also durable as a horse, as he proved consistently this season. Pitching on Friday nights in the SEC takes a certain kind of pitcher, and Randall proved himself worthy this year.
6-28-11: - http://baseballdraftreport.com - Randall’s upside isn’t in the same league as many of his sophomore year contemporaries, but his average across the board raw stuff is underrated by many. Maybe he is a sinker/slider reliever long-term, but there could be some teams that value his plus command and his ability to keep four different pitches at or below the knees consistently enough to keep him as a starter

4-6-10 from: - http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/articles/DisplayArticle.aspx?article=2248 - RHP Alec Rash - This is a name to definitely store away for the future. The 6-4, 185 lb Rash is a 2012 prospect from a small town just west of Des Moines named Adel. I saw him at the PG Midwest Underclass Showcase last September when he was listed at 6-2, 165 lbs, and he threw 83-86 mph at that event from a raw delivery and had obvious potential. A bigger and stronger Rash sat at 88-89 mph on Saturday and his delivery mechanics and over-the-top release point were smoother and more consistent. He threw only fastballs and changeups this outing, although he did cut some fastballs with what seemed like intent. He showed nice spin on his curveball in September, so that ability is there.

Tall and lanky with thin thighs and plenty of room to fill out his frame Simple repeatable delivery with a high 3/4 arm slot and a fast arm; incorporates lower half well and falls off slightly to first base Big fastball with late sink, especially when thrown low in the zone; held velocity deep into the game; sat 93-95 for most of the outing, touching 96 & 97 (via TV radar gun) Fastball was a tick slower out of the stretch, generally 90-93; showed ability to reach back and touch the mid 90s when he needed it; could blow pitch by hitters Fastball did straighten out a bit at higher velocities deep into the game; showed good run when in the lower 90s Slider has sharp 12-7 downward movement with good depth, 80-84 MPH (via TV radar gun) Slider has good late break and two-plane break at times; hitters did a pretty good job laying off pitch out of zone Hard curve ball with late 12-6 break; 76-79 MPH (via TV radar gun) Curve ball didn't look like a distinct enough outing from his slider; threw a few early in the outing, then went almost exclusively to his slider Straight change up with a touch of drop; threw only a handful at 80-81 MPH (via TV radar gun) Showed very good control throughout the outing and solid command, especially of his fastball Had more difficultly throwing slider for a consistent strike Fastball had a tendency to sail a bit up in the zone, but the pitch was big enough where hitters couldn't catch up to it Relied heavily on his fastball when he got into jams and overpowered hitters with it Slider movement and fastball command started to slip in his 8th inning of work Mediocre pick off move that is slow and long
7-5-11: - http://diamondscapescouting.com/articles_2011_summercircuit_prospectclassic_07042011.html - Ryne Stanek will be a draft-eligible sophomore in 2012, making this summer an important one as evaluators will only have his time with Team USA, fall workouts and his freshman year to draw upon when formulating spring follow lists. His outing against the 18U National Team showcased good raw stuff, if inconsistent in its placement. Stanek boasts a low-90s fastball with boring action and a change-up out of the same slot with arm speed deception and a 10-12 mph delta in velo. The result was a lot of empty hacks from the 18U players. Stanek mixed-in an 80-81 mph slider that showed some bite, but also manifested as a spinner in the 77-78 mph range from time to time. Stanek throws from a low three-quarters slot, adding to the life on his fastball and creating a tough angle, but taking away some from his slider as the pitch often sat on one plane. He's a live arm with projection and three pitches, though his command and low slot could point to a relief role down the line, where he could potentially hold down a late inning job.
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments – Ryne Stanek, Arkansas, 6’4 190, draft eligible like Gausmann, Stanek was an early rounder in 2010 by the Mariners, he has a 94 mph fb with late tailing action up vs RHH, also hard breaking ball that lacks only command/consistency. Potential to be top 25 guy in first round. Team USA performer this summer.

Ranked #66 in the 2012 Prospects List compiled by the All-American Athletic Foundation http://allamericanfoundation.pointstreaksites.com/view/allamericanfoundation/news/mlb-2012-draft
Good height, thin but not overly projectable
Slow leg kick before firing from a 3/4 arm slot; live arm with effort
Fastball has good velocity with late life: arm side run
Slider has 1-7 movement with sharp, late break; good amount of depth
Good control of the slider, throwing in the zone for strikes and using effectively as a chase pitch
Had a tendency to overthrow fastball and let sail up out of the zone
6-14-11: - http://baseballdraftreport.com - SO RHP Michael Morin (2012) | 10.05 K/9 – 2.40 BB/9 – 2.86 FIP – 60 IP - The good news is Morin’s changeup is a true plus pitch. The bad news is…well…there isn’t much bad news. Backed up by his solid fastball (88-92 with room for more), good sinking two-seamer, average curve, above-average athleticism, pro frame (6-4, 180 pounds), and outstanding college production, Morin is one of the best college arms of the 2012 class.

He hasn’t had the best year (4.71 ERA, .263 avg against), but he has locked down 10 saves for the Tar Heels. He has also posted a 65:18 K:BB ratio in 63 innings. He also shared duties as a weekday starter for UNC, making six starts, leading many to think he could be in line for an expanded role next season. Morin has great size (6'4", 180 lbs) and was already drafted once, by the Royals in the 40th round of the ’09 event.

6-14-11: - http://baseballdraftreport.com - SO RHP Chris Munnelly (2012) | 7.84 K/9 – 3.73 BB/9 – 4.29 FIP – 70 IP If I’ve learned one thing in doing this post, it’s that North Carolina’s pitching depth is crazy. I can’t even imagine how they’ll divvy up innings if some of their biggest recruits wind up on campus this fall. One of the top returning pitchers next year will be Chris Munnelly. Munnelly was counted on to throw a lot this past spring for North Carolina, and with good reason. His decent fastball (88-91) plays up because of plus command, and both his advanced change and rapidly improving breaking stuff could be even bigger weapons in time.
6-20-11: - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series#/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series/page/8 - RHP Chris Munnelly was the Tar Heels third starter this season and he filled the role admirably, winning six games and posting a 4.11 ERA. You could tell he didn’t have near the experience on the mound or the composure of Patrick Johnson or Kent Emanuel, as evidenced by his 57:31 K:BB ratio in 70 innings. Coming out of high school Munnelly was ranked the No. 5 prospect in the state of North Carolina by Impact Baseball. He throws in the mid-to-high 80s, occasionally scraping the low 90s and complements his fastball with a changeup and a curveball.

He only made 13 appearances this season but was solid, striking out 23 batters in 17 innings, while posting a 2.65 ERA. He too figures to get some more time on the mound as a good chunk of the Longhorns bullpen was drafted this season. Urban has more prototypical size at 6'4" and 215 pounds and seems like a better bet to make the jump to starting.
46) Kyle Hooper
8-3-11: - Kyle Hooper - Hooper is a tall, long-limbed righty, although he isn’t draft eligible until 2012. There appears to be a few pauses to his delivery which creates some deception, as it looks as though that delivery is somewhat of step-by-step process. He doesn’t overpower hitters (the broadcast had him in the mid to upper-80s, which), but there is some run and tail to his fastball. He did a nice job working down in the strike zone, and induced quite a few ground balls. His curveball is a nice pitch, a big slow bender that he can drop both in and out of the strike zone. http://www.5tooltalk.com/2011-notes-3-1-11.html

47) Austin Sovay
11-2-09 from http://www.thehardballtimes.com : - Austin Sovay, RHP, 2012, Ft. Lauderdal, Fla., Marucci Elite - That’s right, a 2012 player already well on the radar. And he’s not alone. I only saw Sovay pitch one inning, but it was impressive. Fastball 85-88, hit 90, and showed a good curve at 73. He’s listed as 6-foot-5 190, which may be a bit low on the weight side. Not that he’s chubby, he just has big, muscular legs. Mechanically, things are pretty simple for such a big guy. However, he has one of those Tim Hudson-esque floating front feet (it strides towards the plate, then stops and starts heading toward the 1B line as his hips open up).

Height/Weight: 5'11" / 185 lbs. Class: Sophomore
Short, not very physical build
High 3/4 arm slot
Fastball has good arm side run; missed bats up in the zone and induced ground ball contact low
Liked to work fastball to his glove side, using the fastball movement to clip the black; elevated pitch for strikeout often
Fastball started to straighten out at times later in the outing
Hard curve ball with 1-7 movement; improved as the game went on
Added and subtracted to his curve ball; some had nice big break and others were more moderately breaking
Threw a couple sliders with subtle late glove side movement
Change has some drop but didn't utilize often
Showed solid command of his fastball and curve ball for most of the outing but did lose location on a few occasions, especially late in the game when he looked tired
Attacked hitters and worked very quickly
Looked tired during his 7th inning of work but did a good job battling through it; reached back and blew a few fastballs by hitters in the 8th

The freshman tossed a career-high eight innings and allowed just one earned run and five base runners. Oakes was perfect through the first 5.1 frames, retiring the first 16 batters he faced. The right-hander held Penn State, who entered the series with a .333 average during conference play, to just .148 hitting in the outing. Oakes grabs the first weekly honor of his career and the fourth for the Minnesota pitching staff this season.

54) Eddie Butler
5-10-10 from: - http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/2010/05/10/big-south-players-of-the-week-10 - Radford freshman Eddie Butler (Chesapeake, Va.) has been named The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week for games played May 3-9, it was announced today by the League office. Butler pitched a complete game five-hitter and struck out a career-high 10 batters in defeating Presbyterian College on Saturday. He needed just 96 pitches over 2:21 to dispatch the Blue Hose, and allowed just two runners past second base in the game. Butler set down the side in order three times, struck out a batter in all but one inning, and did not allow a hit in the final three innings of the contest. Butler’s line last week: 1-0, 9 IP, 5 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 10 SO, 1.00 ERA, .161 opponents’ batting average.

He did not walk a batter and surrendered just five hits along with his seven strikeouts. Mayfield led OU to its first shutout of the Cowboys since game one of the 1993 series in Tulsa. In his first career start, the Del Rio, Texas-native retired the first nine OSU hitters and faced the minimum in six of his nine innings. Mayfield threw 23 first pitch strikes to the 30 batters he faced en route to posting career highs in innings, strikeouts (7) and pitches (117). 59) Colyn O’Connell
Ranked #195 in the 2012 Prospects List compiled by the All-American Athletic Foundation http://allamericanfoundation.pointstreaksites.com/view/allamericanfoundation/news/mlb-2012-draft
60) John Reed
5-2-11: - Player: Jon Reed College: University of Tennessee Position: Starting Pitcher Bats/Throws: R/R Height/Weight: 6'2" / 200 lbs.
Working his way back from TJ surgery
Average height; athletic; not overly projectable
Very little upper body movement in his delivery, uses lower half well; simple and repeatable without much effort
Fastball didn't look like it had great velocity yet; some arm side run and sink at times but movement was inconsistent
Fastball showed more movement down in the zone
Change-up has some drop and arm side fade; movement is VERY inconsistent; threw one that had good late action
Curve ball had 1-7 downward movement; good shape; lacked sharp break
Did break off one very good curve ball in the third
Threw a couple sliders with 2-8 movement; not sharp but good break
Stuff just lacked crispness
Command came and went; innings where he left all of his pitches up in the zone and was hurt by it; others where he was hitting his spots with his fastball and curve
Comment: Reed is obviously not all the way back yet. Recovering from Tommy John surgery is a process and I'll be interested to see what kind of pitcher he is next year. Right now he only shows flashes, but he has the potential to become a very interesting 2012 draft prospect.
61) Geoffrey Thomas
Average height; very athletic with a well developed chest and a high waist
High 3/4 arm slot with a fast, whippy arm; utilizes lower half well
Fastball with average velocity with late arm side run and some sink; good downward plane when thrown down in the zone; 91 in the first (via announcer)
Fastball had good life low in the zone but straightened out a bit when left up; good ground ball tendency
Reached back for a bit extra and blew by the hitter on a couple of occasions
Has a cut fastball with late glove side movement; 87 in the third (via announcer)
Curve ball has traditional 12-6 movement; good depth but lacked sharp break; 76 in the second (via announcer)
Hitters didn't have much trouble with the curve ball
Change-up has late drop and arm side fade; 81 in the second (via announcer)
Change-up a bit inconsistent at times but some had excellent action, others merely average
Started the game with pretty good command of his fastball, moving the pitch in and out and hitting the corners with the pitch
In the 2nd inning, he got into trouble by hitting a batter with a curve ball and completely lost his ability to throw strikes; his release point varied
During that time, he lost tempo out of the stretch, sometimes significantly pausing when he lifted his leg before coming to the plate
Started the third inning with poor command but got back into a groove by the end of the inning and showing pretty good command and control for the rest of the game
Showed some bat missing ability with his fastball, cutter and change-up
Utilizes slide step with runners on first or second but pick off move is long
Gets off of the mound quickly to field his position
62) Cody Stiles
SO RHP Cody Stiles (2012) | 7.54 K/9 – 2.92 BB/9 – 3.91 FIP – 37 IP - With two breaking balls with above-average upside, Stiles heads into his junior campaign with a chance to shoot up draft boards. This isn’t a realistic comp for a sophomore coming off a 37 inning regular season, but there is something about Stiles’ repertoire (94 peak FB, promising SL and CB, CU with sink) that reads a little like 2011 first round pick Matt Barnes.
6-20-11: - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series#/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series/page/8 - RHP Cody Stiles should be a mid-round target for some teams. He was selected by the Yankees in the 39th round back in 2009, but spurned their offer to join the Tar Heels in the hopes that he would someday squeeze his way into the rotation. He made eight starts this season, in addition to four relief appearances and pitched very well, posting a 4-0 record, a 2.43 ERA and a 29:13 K:BB ratio in 37 innings. With the departure of Patrick Johnson, it looks like Stiles might get that chance.
63) Davis Hall
6-14-11: - http://www.collegesummerbaseball.net/2011/06/pitcher-of-night-in-prospect-league_14.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter My Hitter of the Night in the Prospect League from June 10th is Davis Hall of the Vienna River Dogs by way of the University of Memphis. Davis picked up the win by throwing seven quality innings. He allowed just one run on three hits and he walked just one batter. He also fanned four batters in the game
64) Colby Holmes
6-20-11: - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series#/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series/page/9 - RHP Colby Holmes was the Gamecock’s Sunday starter this season, and he benefited from having one of the best defensive units in the country. He went 7-3 with a 3.78 ERA in 12 starts (17 total appearances) and posted a 70:20 K:BB ratio in 81 innings. Holmes has strung together a couple of gutsy efforts in the regionals and figures to get at least one more start before the season is through. Holmes throws in the low 90s and has always gotten rave reviews for his great command, but his breaking stuff isn’t all that impressive, as evidenced by the 12 home runs he surrendered this year. Holmes is also a former ’09 draft pick, in the 47th round by the Atlanta Braves.
7-15-11: - http://mlbdraftguide.com/1/2011/07/13/colby-holmes-2012-draft-profile - Colby Holmes made good strides from 2010 to 2011. He is a short righthander with 3 pitches. Holmes throws a low 90′s fastball. 90-92 when I have seen him. He throws a slider with good movement and also uses a changeup. Holmes has a high 3/4 arm slot and hides the ball well. He has been prone to giving up home runs since arriving at South Carolina.
65) Patrick Sullivan:
6-20-11: - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series#/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series/page/9 - RHP Patrick Sullivan doesn’t have premium stuff, but he got results this season in limited time on the mound. He kept his ERA to 1.35 in 20 innings, spanning 10 appearances. He struck out 21 batters and walked nine.
66) Kyle Martin:
6-20-11: - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series#/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series/page/7 - RHP Kyle Martin was one of the Aggies’ most effective relievers this season, helping to fill the huge hole left by John Stilson who moved into the rotation. Martin finished with a 3.60 ERA in 30 appearances and notched 37 strikeouts in 40 innings. He also picked up one save and served up only one home run the entire season. Martin was a 39th-round pick of the Washington Nationals back in 2009.
67) Logan Scott:
6-20-11: - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series#/articles/740905-omaha-eye-openers-2012-mlb-draft-prospects-at-the-2011-college-world-series/page/6 - RHP Logan Scott is another intriguing option. After making only three appearances as a freshman, Scott was utilized often this season, making 23 appearances, including one start. He finished with a 2.89 ERA and 29:9 K:BB ratio in 43.2 innings. Despite having ideal size (6'4", 216 lbs) Scott doesn’t have premium stuff (mid-to-high 80s fastball), but he does have two average offerings in a changeup and a curveball.
68) Ty Buttrey:

70) Curt Britt
Ranked #77 in the 2012 Prospects List compiled by the All-American Athletic Foundation http://allamericanfoundation.pointstreaksites.com/view/allamericanfoundation/news/mlb-2012-draft
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Curt Britt, Laurinburg HS, NC, 6’1 200, better hitter than pitcher in my opinion, full effort with 91 fb and hard breaking ball he gets over for strikes, deception is fair, long term project who I feel should go to college, but he’s got a solid bat that could be put to use at 1b, doesn’t run well however, 7.8, 60.
71) Tucker Linder
Ranked #81 in the 2012 Prospects List compiled by the All-American Athletic Foundation http://allamericanfoundation.pointstreaksites.com/view/allamericanfoundation/news/mlb-2012-draft
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Tucker Linder, Tallmadge HS, Ohio 6’5 220, has some pop to fb, up to 91, most are 88-89 with some life down in zone, most fb were up in limited action, only saw breaking ball in the k-zone once out of 20 pitches, has chance to develop once in college
72) Paul Blackburn:
7- 9-11 via twitter: - Against McCullers is RHP Paul Blackurn (2012, Heritage HS, Oakley, CA) sitting 90-92, curveball 76-78
73) Anthony Bazanni:
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Anthony Bazzani, E Kentucky, 6’4 200, behemoth with good arm strength, low 90’s live sinker with hard 81-84 slider and throws strikes, a bit of a head jerk but it doesn’t hurt him. He’s pitching this summer in the Northwoods league for Mankato.
74) Jeffrey Gibbs:
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments – Jeffrey Gibbs, Maine, 6’3 1/2 200, have had the opportunity to see this young man 2 times in last 2 years and he has a very good arm, fb that touches 93 and seems to get people out and he competes, never shows emotion and has command of his pitches. Could be best pitcher to come out of Maine’s program since Billy Swift or Scott Morse.
75) Mark Hermes:
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments – Mark Hermes, North Dakota St, 6’4 195, needs to get ahead of hitters more, does challenge but gets behind a lot, often throwing tons of pitches, has good arm strength and build to get better, touches 93-94 on occ as well, most fb are true and 88-91, breaking ball still developing.
76) Ralph Garza:
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Ralph Garza, New Braunfels HS, Tex 6’1 180, showed nice rotation on cb, fb up to 90 very straight, easy delivery with average control, not real deceptive just yet.
77) Kyle Funkhouser:
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Kyle Funkhouser, Oak Forest HS, Ill, 6’3 200, nice build and arm looseness, not a real quick arm, will touch 91 on occ, most are 88-89, has proper rotation on breaking ball, still in development stage, might be one of those midwest kids that evolves once in college.
78) Jared Price:
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Jared Price, Twin Valley HS, Mohnton, PA 6’2 185, loose and quick, some rerap and coil in back/short like Roger Clemens, fb jumps out of hand when he fully extends out front, fb up to 92, mostly 90 with arm side run and hard breaking ball that is still developing, showed fair command and control, aggressive, could be top 4-7 round in 2012.
79) Nathan Griep:
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Nathan Griep, Millard West HS, Omaha NE 6’2 185, loose righty from a great midwest program coached by former KC Royal, Frank Ryan, Nathan has loose arm that touches 91, most fb are upper 80’s with arm side run and sink and has makings of solid cb and change, still room left to grow. May excel once in college.
80) Jamie Callahan:
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Jamie Callahan, Dillon HS, SC, 6’3 190, loose arm that touches 92 on occ, most fb were 90 with middle in life vs RHH and downward tilt to cb that needs a bit more polish. Threw strikes and delivery is workable.
81) Teddy Stankiewicz:
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Teddy Stankiewicz, Southwest Christian HS, Ft Worth Tex 6’3 190, loose arm that touches 92 on occ, most were 90 with sink when down, fb up hittable, control is ok and has good rotation and bite on cb, both pitches fb & cb from H 3/4 arm slot and delivery is easy to project more velocity to develop later.
82) Keaton Haack:
7-19-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com/2011/6/29/2250656/early-look-at-2012#comments - Keaton Haack, NW Guilford HS, NC, 6’5 1/2 200, throws easy from H 3/4, touches 91 on jugs, downhill plane, some bite to cutter type breaking ball, fb fairly straight, some sink when down in the zone, is around the plate for the most part, still a work in progress.
83) Shane Watson:
8-8-11: - Per Twitter - Shane Watson (rhp, Lakewood HS, Calif.) also solid, showing 90-1 FB, topped 92. Flashed plus two-plane CB @ 77-78. #MLBDraft #AreaCodeGames
8-12-11: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=290 - RHP Shane Watson (6'4" 200, Bellflower, CA) also looked good, though is a tick below some of the other Brewers' pitching prospects. He could certainly come on though and emerge as a top five round type guy in the spring. He has a great frame, a good clean arm action and a patient delivery. His stuff looked to be in that 87-90 mph range, maybe a touch of 91 and he showed feel of the curveball.
84) Brent Suter:
8-9-11: - http://www.collegebaseballdaily.com/2011/08/09/cape-cod-baseball-league-players-of-the-week-august-9th - Brent Suter (Harvard) is this week’s Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week after recording what might be the defining clutch pitching performance of this year’s playoffs. In Game 1 of Wareham’s opening round series at Bourne, the southpaw went the distance and surrendered only two runs. Suter struck out eight Braves in the 12-3 win. In his other start this week, Suter threw five shutout innings in a no-decision versus Falmouth, scattering four hits and striking out five. Suter is a junior at Harvard, where he was named first team All-Ivy as a sophomore.
85) Trevor Megill:
8-12-11: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=290 - RHP Trevor Megill (6'7" 230, Huntington Beach, CA) was the one I like most for the long haul and with his body type, stuff (89-92 mph), arm action and easy fluid delivery, I can make a decent comparison to Marlins RHP Josh Johnson. What I also like about Megill is that he has feel for the breaking ball, a 76-77 mph curveball. I think Megill projects about as easily as you can fairly project any young pitcher.
86) Kyle Twomey:
8-12-11: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=290 - LHP Kyle Twomey (6'3" 165, Placentia, CA) also looked good, with a quick, loose, easy arm action and a body that is a long way from being physically mature. He mixed in his change-up very well, showed some pitchability and then consider he was in the 87-90 mph range, with a solid curveball too, and we have a prospect. I also liked that he holds runners and has an excellent pick-off move.
87) Austin Kubitza:
8-17-11: - http://www.mlbbonusbaby.com There were some solid prospects in the game. The starting pitcher was Austin Kubitza from Rice. He showed a solid fastball and a good breaking ball. He won't be a front line starter, but he will be a pro ball player. He's 6'5", 190 lbs and will be a top 5 round pick in the 2012 draft and could go much higher with a good season.
88) Freddy Avis:
8-16-11: - http://sancarlos.patch.com/articles/freddy-avis-suddenly-a-sizzling-mlb-prospect Freddy Avis’s summer has been a blur. And that’s how many an opposing batter would describe his mid-90’s fastball. How much has changed for Avis since he completed his junior year at Menlo School? At the time of the MLB draft in early June, Avis would’ve gawked at the possibility of weighing a lucrative offer to play professional baseball in a year. That was about the furthest thing from his mind as he was narrowing his college choices and eying a full slate of travel-ball games with the California Smoke.

128) Brandon Kuter:
The Westhampton Aviators had the most prospects (6), including No. 1 prospect Brandon Kuter, a rising junior righthander from George Mason, but managed to compile just a 21-19 record on the season, though finished first in its division and lost in the league championship game to Staten Island. It remains to be seen where this year’s top prospect, the 6-foot-7 Kuter, will be drafted in 2012, but he was hands-down the top-rated talent in the league and actually moved to the top spot after being ranked No. 7 a year ago. Kuter topped the league in saves with a fastball that peaked at 96 mph. - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=6235
1. BRANDON KUTER, rhp, Westhampton Aviators (George Mason/JR in 2012) SCOUTING PROFILE: There’s something about the ACBL that seems to bring out the best in Kuter. In two seasons working in relief at George Mason, the 6-foot-7, 220-pound righthander has struggled mightily in going a combined 1-3, 7.68 while giving up 32 walks and 55 hits in 34 innings, and striking out just 32. But he has been a completely different pitcher the last two summers as a closer for Westhampton. He fanned 31 in 21 innings a year ago, and thoroughly dominated the league this summer in 21 appearances, posting a 0.40 ERA, saving a league-high 10 games and punching out 36 in 22 innings. He also earned a save in the league all-star game with a fastball that registered 96 mph. The pitch typically sat at 92-94 during the season and he complemented it with a power slider, giving him the two dominant pitches needed to excel in a game-ending role. Kuter has a live, loose arm with a projectable, athletic frame, but he still needs to repeat his delivery more consistently to fine-tune the command of his slider. If he can accomplish that, he appears to have everything that a scout would look for in an early-round draft pick.
129) Nick Dolsky:
9-1-11: - http://xmlbscout.angelfire.com Nick Dolsky, Nebraska, 6'7 235, tall righty, draft eligible due to age, turns 21 in December, comes downhill from H 3/4 arm slot, has some life on his fb down on the knees that will touch 91-92 on occ, most fb upper 80's, had a very solid summer thus far in the N'woods League and seems to have found his breaking ball over the summer. With new pitching coach Silva working with him this fall, the sky is the limit with this kid. Right now projects to be a 4-7 rounder but could move up with added velocity and better command next spring. You don't get many tall righties with good coordination like this kid has.
How on Earth do you compile all of this specific info on each player. Do you find it all yourself, and cut & paste it together? That seems as if, especially with this post, like it would take days. Unreal man. You should definatly be getting paid by someone. As always, keep it up Mack
