Hot Stove: - Rafael Furcal, Daniel Bard, Rockies, Ramirez to BoSox?, Aramis Ramirez

The Cardinals have signed Rafael Furcal to a two-year deal worth roughly $14 million, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. The deal is pending a physical. Furcal, 34, batted .231/.298/.348 with eight homers and a .646 OPS over 368 plate appearances between the Dodgers and Cardinals this past season. After recently undergoing an appendectomy, he is fully expected to be ready for the start of spring training. His signing likely rules out another possible destination for Jimmy Rollins. http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/mlb/346693/baseball-headlines?r=1

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said yesterday that Daniel Bard, who projected to be the team’s closer after the departure of Jonathan Papelbon to the Phillies, would likely be prepped as a starter during spring training. Valentine said Bard seemed receptive to the idea, but the manager left open the possibility of utilizing him as the closer - http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/319695-red-sox-to-try-bard-as-starter#ixzz1gFLP7065

The Rockies' offseason options are becoming dizzying. They continue to look for the right combination of players in trades, maintaining interest in infielders Martin Prado of Atlanta and Boston's Marco Scutaro. ... The Rockies need starting pitching. That's why they talked to the Mets about [John Niese] and aggressively pursued the Reds' Edinson Volquez. With Cincinnati reluctant to sign off, the Rockies moved closer Huston Street to the Padres, saving $7 million on this year's payroll. Throw in Ian Stewart's exit to Chicago for DJ LeMahieu, a candidate to start at second base, and outfielder Tyler Colvin and the Rockies have roughly $9 million available. http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/319734-influx-of-cash-has-rockies-on-the-prowl#ixzz1gKuwbVXK

In some circles, it might seem impossible for Hanley Ramirez to line up next to Jose Reyes in the Marlins infield. People in the industry and people close to Ramirez keep telling me that he wants to stay at shortstop. Let's drop the pretense: Trading Ramirez is the Marlins' logical next move, one that could make the team even stronger. ... The Sox need two starting pitchers and a closer far more than a shortstop, but surely they would be tempted to reacquire Ramirez. Shortstop Marco Scutaro is eminently available, but the Marlins' goal in any Ramirez trade would be to acquire a big bat and a starting pitcher. Third baseman Kevin Youkilis could be the bat. The pitcher? Not so clear. http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/319735-a-hanley-return-to-boston#ixzz1gKvIRVBr

According to ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine, the Brewers have signed Aramis Ramirez to a three-year deal. No word yet on the financial terms. Ramirez, 33, registered a superb .871 OPS with 26 home runs and 93 RBI in 149 games this past year for the Cubs. He's injury prone, but he's also capable of raking when healthy. The Brewers will hope that he can stay active and help replace some of the offense lost in the departure of Prince Fielder. http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/mlb/346745/baseball-headlines?r=1
