"They Didn't Want Me There." - by Mack Ade

"They Didn't Want Me There."
By Mack Ade

I’ve written a lot about this guy over the years and I’ve told my loyal readers that he never really thought of this sport as anything more than a business. Well, he sure proved it on Wednesday at his coming out presser in the Hotel Anatole in Dallas.

I don’t want this to be a spilled milk post. I just want all of you out there to understand that the majority of baseball players that get to this level of excellence have turned their backs on loyalty and fandom years ago.

Reyes didn’t have to slam the Mets today. He could have thanked them for the 10+ years they handsomely paid him instead of saying they didn’t want him. He could have mentioned the Mets had a new stadium recently too.

I’m old enough to remember that Jackie Robinson was traded to the Giants.  This has always been a business. It just sucks a little more on days like today.

Oh yeah… Jose. You’re under a Marlin contract now. Dreads got to go, son.

  1. I can't believe how upset I am over this.

  2. You have to realize that it won't be long until he's rounding a base and coming up lame; his hand immediately grabbing the back of his leg while his face distorts in such a way that it shows all Mets fans that Jose is feeling a much too familiar pain. Maybe not this season, but sooner rather then later, he'll be DL'ed and as much as the Mets could've used him, they are at this moment a better team. You just have to realized that there is no way they could have kept him and also build the bullpen they have right now. Believe it or not, they will finish with a better record with the moves they made in the last 48 hours and that includes the move they didn't make; signing Reyes. What you should be upset about is that the Mets couldn't afford Reyes AND this cheaply revamped bullpen they just put together. That's what's upsetting.

  3. I agree, Mack......Jose could have shown some class and thanked the Mets for drafting him, developing him and giving him an opportunity to become the player he is, which led to his "pay day".

I don't blame him for taking the cash.....who wouldn't? But do you have to be an ass about it and then try to deflect the potential negative press by saying the Mets didn't show you enough attention? Really? So if the Mets were more "loving" you would have stayed in NY? HA!

Loved Sandy's response about the box of chocolate!

Jose and his "attitude" will fit right in with the rest of the thugs in South Beach and their new "leader" Ozzie.
