Frankly, there is nothing wrong with 3 picks in the top 100. The issue is going to be the new restrictive draft regulations and the scarcity of the current Met NEED positions.
ReplyDeleteThe sad part is the three picks come in a year where the Mets no longer have the money to hand out big bonus checks.
ReplyDelete(three more minimal wage employees in St. lucie were fired this morning).
I expect one of these three picks to go to someone projected way down the line, because there will already be off-the-record discussions with that player about "if we draft you high, will you accept only xx-$$ as a bonus?"
Agreed Mack with the new restrictions in place its safe to say that only 1 of the first 3 with be a high schooler with the other two being a College junior or senior with less leverage.

I would like to see the Mets target "injured" top prospects like the Red Sox have done.
Somebody is going to get hurt or shut down, costing them big bucks.
Two years ago, every early mock draft was headed by P Anthony Renaudo. Last year, it was LHP Matt Purke.
There will be somebody for the Mets to get creative, if they want to.
