I May Be Wrong, But… Ground Up, Dillon Gee, Ex-Mets, Brant Rustich, Projected 2014 25-man

·        Did you see that report that Bud Seliq has been offered a 2-year extension as the COB? This is much more than an offer. Baseball will do everything it can to convince Selig to stay. This will give Alderson and Company the green light to go ‘ground up’.

He’s off to a good start... Ike Davis, Ruben Tejada, Lucas Duda, Jon Niese, Dillon Gee, Pedro Beato, Josh Satin, Chris Schwinden, Bobby Parnell, Josh Satin, Justin Turner, and Josh Thole.

The Moneyball thing brought Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch, and Andres Torres.

We’ll see Jeurys Familia and Kirk Nieuwenhuis by the end of the year and 4-1-13 will bring Matt Harvey, Jenrry Mejia, Robert Carson, Josh Edgin, Reese Havens, Jordany Valdespin, Zach Lutz, and Juan Lagares.

Lastly, on 4-1-14, along come Zack Wheeler, Darin Gorski, Jack Leathersich, Wilmer Flores, Matt den Dekker, and Cesar Puello.

That’s 31close to minimally paid players to mold a 25-man squad.

Billy Beane, eat your heart out.

·        We put up a poll on the right side of the front page and asked if four pitchers all aced spring training, should the incumbent SP5 keep his job. Happily, the readers here continue to prove to be the most intelligent Mets fans online, and Dillon Gee wins the survey hands down.

Nothing against the other three, but the incumbent, under similar conditions, should always get first shot.

Good move, guys.

·        I’m removing some names from the Keepers list, either because they have departed the team, have past the 24-year top end requirement for the classification, or simply have become more of an AAAA player.

They are:  Fernando Martinez, Michael Fisher, Eric Campbell

·        Some ex-Mets moving around:

o   IF Brad Emaus was bought by Boston from Colorado

o   Cincy signed… wait for it…  P John Holdzkom

o   SS Chin-lung Hu signed by Cleveland

·        Heard from Brant Rustich today:

Hey Mack, I head to Florida Sunday for a mini-camp. Throwing has been going well for me on my own for the last few weeks so I hope to continue to progress so I can be 100% by spring training. I will keep you posted.

  1. Since 2014 is apparently 'the year', it might be fun to keep a running tab on the 25-man for that year.
