D1 - Thursday Game Notes

·         John Tommasini had three hits and Ryan Dunn drove in three to pace the 21st-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 10-7 win over Pacific Thursday afternoon at Cunningham Stadium. Three other Beavers finished with two hits apiece - Danny Hayes, Ryan Barnes and Kavin Keyes - to help the Beavers offensively. Oregon State finished the game with 12 hits and seven walks.[i]

·         Ryon Healy homered and drove in four, and Shaun Chase went yard and plated three, helping the University of Oregon continue its hot early season play with a 13-4 blowout of Belmont at Rose Park. The win for the Ducks (4-1) was their fourth straight overall and third in a row while scoring 10 or more runs, a first since the program was reinstated prior to the 2009 season. The team's 4-1 start is also the best in UO's modern era. [ii]

·         Joe Giacchino hit a sacrifice fly to drive home Cameron Travalini with the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning as the University of Delaware baseball team picked up its first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over The Citadel Thursday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.[iii]

·         The Saint Mary's baseball team ran its winning streak to a program best five games to start the season, as SMC defeated Brigham Young 7-2 in the first game of a three game West Coast Conference series on Thursday.  Saint Mary's (5-0/1-0 WCC) once again received a tremendous pitching performance from starter Martin Agosta (1-0.)  Agosta threw a season-high eight complete innings, scattering seven hits, one run, one earned, with no walks and six strike outs in front of 35 major league scouts[iv]

I talked to Agosta after the game and he took us through the victory:

"My outing went well! Struggling a bit from last weekend, I was   able to pound the outer half today. I give a ton of credit to my catcher Toby Demello for he did an outstanding job behind the plate for me. I also give credit to both defense and offense who came up huge in the clutch. This is by far one of the best group of guys I have ever played with. Everyone picks each other up while giving their own opinion when needed. I know the guys behind me are going to do their job so I need to do mine. I found a groove and settled in from their. Another great team win especially considering this  is the second weekend and we already have a conference matchup. We are going to continue to get better everyday while continuing the grind."
