Calm down Rubin… not
those bubble boys.
Cut time is coming and
it’s time to revisit some of the guys that are sitting on the bubble going into
Spring Training.
3B
Eric Campbell – Campbell played his fourth Mets season
for Binghamton, hitting .247 in 405-AB. A .343 slugging percentage is not what
the Mets are looking for as a replacement for David Wright someday.
C Jean-Luc Blaquiere - J-L has been banged around his entire Mets career and spent 2011 either nursing his wounds or hitting .229 for Binghamton. 2012 would be his 8th year in the system.
SP
Tobi Stoner – Tobi has pitched six seasons for the
Mets, including two trips to Queens. Injuries slowed him down and he went 5-7,
6.05 in 21-G, 19-ST for Buffalo and Binghamton last year. Stoner turned 27 this
past December.
OF
Raul Reyes – Reyes has played six seasons in the Mets
organization and actually had a good 2011 season in Binghamton (.292). His
promotion to Buffalo didn’t go as well (.200) and he may be boxed out with the
addition of some of the recent signings.
SP
Scott Moviel – Moviel was a big (6-11) second round
pick in 2007 who just hasn’t lived up to the scouting reports out of high
school. Scott went 3-7, 5.56 for St. Lucie in 2010 and went back there last
year to go 5-10, 5.10. He could get a
second chance in the pen, but I don’t see him earning a rotation slot either at
the AA or A+ level in 2012.
SP
Kyle Allen – Allen turned out heads in 2008 with the
GCL-Mets and 2009 with Savannah, but he’s been on the downspin since. Last
season, he went 6-11, 6.28 in 20-starts and six other appearances for St.
Lucie. There just may be too much pitching in the organization right now to
keep this going.
RP
Ronny Moria – Moria has played organized ball for six
years. The Mets signed him last year to fill in an opening in the Savannah pen (3-3,
2.53, 34-appearances). A promotion to St. Lucie (13.89-ERA) didn’t work out as
well. There’s a good chance he will be edged out by one of the boys from
Brooklyn.
RP
Eric Niesen – 2011 was Niesen’s fifth year with the
Mets, none of which ever resulted in a .500 winning percentage. Once a starter,
he pitched 51 relief appearances last year for Buffalo and Binghamton,
combining for a 3-8, 5.18 record.
2B
Michael Fisher – Fisher split time in 2011 between
Binghamton (.290) and Buffalo (.259). He’s pretty well boxed out at AAA with Reese Havens holding down second and
four recent minor league signings of infielders. He will play 2012 as a 27-year
old, so his time may be up even
though he played well last year.
Mack, (re Bubble Guys) will Sean Ratliff get some sympathy points and a chance to recover, or his he just a numbers victim given his medical prognosis is still uncertain?
ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention him.
ReplyDeleteI was told about 2 weeks ago that his eye socket never healed and he would be out again for at least the 2012 season.
Then, I find out yesterday that he's in camp already.
I have no idea what his actual status is, but that is a good sign.
Conrad:
ReplyDeleteI just heard back from Jay Horwitz.
He confirmed that Ratliff is in camp and said he will get back to me when he gets a medical update on him.
