Mack and Company and... Matt Harvey

Mack - Matt Harvey today - 1.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 37 pitches… thoughts?

Michael Scannell - Looks good...how tough was the competition?  No matter how well he does know he goes down to the minors.  I'd like to see the kid get challenged at AAA.
Frank Gray - Yeah, reports were that he was looking lethal, but not yet ready. That line proves it.

Stephen Guilbert - If he was locating, mixing his pitches, and experimenting, I'm fine with it. Spring training stats mean even less than minor league #s for young, aspiring pitchers. Am interested to see how his velocity, location, and breaking pitches all looked.

Jack Flynn -  The only thing you can ever really take about a pitcher's first spring training appearance is that it's a success if he doesn't leave the mound clutching his arm!

Kevin Kernan - Looked to me that Matt Harvey was clipped on the hand on ball hit back up the middle by Nickeas. TC came out and ended inning

John Harper - Matt Harvey so-so 2 innings here in Mets intrasquad game. Threw a couple of impressive change-ups, critical pitch to his development

Michael Freire  - I think it is great that he is getting some work with the major league team, so he can see where he stands and where he needs to improve. While I don't really put a lot of stock into spring training/scrimmage stats, it is pretty clear that he would benefit from some more "seasoning" in AA and maybe AAA, before a late season call up. He averaged just over seven pitches per out today, which would put him at approximately 100 pitches before the fifth inning was over (Mike Pelfrey like efficiency, as in very little).  That and four base runners in less than two innings, which is Oliver Perez like... OK, I am going to stop and stick with the first sentence.  Keep working hard, Matt!   There is a place for you at the back of the rotation, once Labor Day gets here.
