This is pure speculation.
The Mets spring training camp is almost giddy over the
projected dominance of the rotation come 2014 and beyond.
This is just one scenario.
4-1-12 – The Mets break camp with RHP R.A.
Dickey, LHP Jon Niese, LHP Johan Santana, RHP Mike
Pelfrey, and RHP Dillon Gee.
7-1-12 – Santana, Niese, Dickey, Pelfrey, RHP Matt Harvey
9-1-12 – Santana, Niese, Dickey, Harvey, RHP Jeurys Familia
4-1-13 – Santana, Harvey, Niese, Familia, RHP Jenrry Mejia
9-1-13 – Harvey, Niese, Familia, Mejia, RHP Zack Wheeler
4-1-14 – Harvey, Wheeler, Niese, Mejia, Familia
That is one hell of a rotation.

ReplyDeletenow we have to light a lot of candles...
For sure. Luckily though (unlike the hitters) if a couple of these guys never make it or get switched to the bullpen (highly likely for at least one of them if not 2-3) there are still a number of pitchers in the system who could be elite within a couple years along with these five.
ReplyDeleteWe also shouldn't sleep on Pelfrey or Dickey...both could be usable pieces well past 2013 (but I understand why they are not on this list). As much as I have been frustrated by Pelfrey, he still is only one year removed from a very solid season and could still be "figuring it out". Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?
Here it is now in 2020, and look who was missing - Jake deGrom. How very far he has come.
ReplyDeleteI miss Steve Guilbert posts - I wonder how he's doing?
