ST PICS - Fear and Loathing in PSL: Spring Training '12 Pt. 2

by Jeremiah Alley

The single greatest thing about the Spring Training experience is the accessibility of the players. At no point during the regular season do you see them in the light that you do at PSL. All too often we take for granted the humanity of pro sports athletes. We frequently create this "larger than life" image of these guys...

I mean, don't get me wrong, some of these guys are larger than life. If you ever get the chance to walk next to Lucas Duda you will know exactly what I mean. Jon Rauch in particular is a behemoth. Terry Collins might need a stepping stool to address some of these guys. Even Ruben Tejada, who appears so tiny on TV, is a decent size...

I am most proud of the pictures that are attached to this post simply because they capture the essence of spring training. They remind us of all the positive things that baseball and these players bring to younger generations. We have become conditioned to expect the athlete that scoffs at having to stop and talk to the fans, or sign autographs for the kids. So, it gives you a renewed sense of pride in your team and its players when you see them the way I got to see them...

If you have ever contemplated going to PSL, but have yet to do so, hesitate no further. Trust me, it is beyond worth it. With all the negative things that surround this team it is easy to forget all of it at spring training. It is nothing but good times...
