TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the first game of a three-game series at Coca-Cola Park (7:05 p.m.). Buffalo began this six-game roadtrip with a 2-1 series win in Syracuse. The Bisons are 5-4 on the road this season.
vs. IRONPIGS: The Bisons are 2-2 against the IronPigs this season. The clubs split a four-game set at Coca-Cola Field last week, April 16-19. The Herd is just 13-19 all time at Coca-Cola Park. The only series Buffalo has ever won in Lehigh Valley was a two-game set, August 9-10, 2010 (8-1, 6-0). The winning pitcher for the Bisons in the second game was Pat Misch (5.0IP, 2H, 0R, 3K).
HUGE HEFNER: RHPJEREMY HEFNER will make his fourth start of the season today. The righty will look to duplicate the success he had against the IronPigs in his last start. On April 18, Hefner allowed just an unearned run in seven innings of a 4-1 victory over the IronPigs. His 1.96ERA on the season is the eighth lowest in the International League.
STARTING STRONG: The Bisons are 4-2 in their last six games, due in large part to their starting pitching. In the last six starts, the rotation has combined to go 4-1 with a 1.95ERA and five quality starts. Since last Tuesday, Buffalo starters have allowed just 26 hits and struck out 31 in 37.0 innings of work.
THE Q: INFOMAR QUINTANILLA has a unique streak going. The shortstop has either driven in a run or walked in 12 consecutive games. Since April 9, Quintanilla has averaged .324 (11-34) with seven RBI. He cashed in three runs as part of a 3-3 day at the plate in the first game of yesterday’s doubleheader. On the year, Quintanilla has nine walks and a .375 on-base percentage.
SPIN CLASS: INFJORDANY VALDESPIN has scored a run in four straight games. He now has 13 runs scored on the season, 5th most in the International League. No one in the league has more at-bats than Valdespin’s 76. The infielder has hit safely in 15 of his 17 games with the Bisons.
BISONS BITS: INFJORDANY VALDESPIN is the 4th hardest batter in the IL to strikeout, with only seven strikeouts in 81 plate appearances...INFVALENTINO PASCUCCI is 3rd in the IL with a homer every 9.5 at-bats.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (8-6) and Giants were postponed from Citi Field yesterday. The clubs will play a doubleheader today starting at 4:10 p.m. A pair of former Bisons will start with RHP MIGUEL BATISTA going in game one and RHP DILLON GEEpitching the night cap. New York is in 3rd in the NL East division, three games back.
