ERIE,PA – Rylan Sandoval launched a solo home run and the B-Mets took advantage ofsix walks in a 3-1 comeback win over the Erie SeaWolves Friday night at JerryUht Park. Mark Cohoon allowed one run over six innings to earn his secondstraight win.
TheSeaWolves cracked the scoreboard first in the third. After Brent Dlugach ledoff with a single, Michael Rockett replaced him at first on a fielder’s choice.He moved to second on a groundout and scored on Niuman Romero’s single toright. Juan Lagares’ throw from right was in time, but Juan Centeno could nothold on to the ball, allowing Rockett to score.
Sandovalcame through for Binghamton in the fifth. The designated hitter ripped a 3-1pitch from starter Kelvin De La Cruz off the arena beyond the left field fencefor his first home run of the season. Of Sandoval’s six hits with the B-Mets,four have been run-scoring extra-basehits.
Lagaresused his arm to keep the game tied in the fifth. Brent Dlugach led off the inningby walking and advanced to second on a groundout. With two outs, he attemptedto score on Romero’s single to right, but was gunned down by Lagares to end theinning.
Binghamtontook the lead without the aid of a hit in the seventh. De La Cruz issued walksto Centeno and Joe Bonfe to end this night. Reliever Jared Gayhart entered andfared no better. The righty walked Sandoval to load the bases and issued a freepass Pedro Zapata to force in a run.
Therun in the seventh helped make a winner of Cohoon. The lefty allowed just onerun on four hits over six innings. Although he walked a season-high four, hefanned three and stranded five runners on base.
Binghamtontacked on an insurance run in the eight off reliever Ryan Robowski. JoshRodriguez started the frame with a walk, moved to second on Marte’s single, andadvanced to third on a throwing error by Rockett in right field. The errorproved crucial when Rodriguez scored on Centeno’s sac fly to left field laterin the inning.
RobertCarson took over for Cohoon and put up two scoreless innings of relief. Thelefty was optioned back to Binghamton on Thursday after spending three dayswith the New York Mets.
ElvinRamirez posted a perfect ninth inning to collect his first save. Cohoon (2-2)earned his second straight win and De La Cruz (1-2) was saddled with the loss.
TheB-Mets (11-9) continue their three games series against the Sea Wolves tomorrowafternoon at 1:35 PM. RHP Collin McHugh takes the ball for Binghamton againstRHP James Avery. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 1:20PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
