TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the third game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (6:05 p.m.). The teams have traded victories with Lehigh Valley winning 8-2 on Monday and the Herd collecting a 4-1 win last night. The Bisons are now 3-4 on their first homestand of the 2012 season. The team leaves for a six-game roadtrip to Syracuse and Lehigh Valley starting Friday.

vs. IRONPIGS: The Bisons are 1-1 against the IronPigs this year. The rivalry has gone back-and-forth recently with no teams winning more than two straight against the other since Buffalo won three consecutive contests in Lehigh Valley, August 9-10 and September 3, 2010.

HUGE HEFNER: RHPJEREMY HEFNER gets his third start of the season today. The righty beat Rochester with seven innings of work on April 8, but is coming off a 4.1-inning defeat to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last Friday. Hefner has won at least nine games in each of his last four seasons, including a 9-7 record in 28 starts with Triple-A Tucson a season ago.

TIPPIN’ THE SCALES: Ten games and counting for INFBOBBY SCALES, who has reached base at least twice in every contest he has started in 2012. His .556 on-base percentage is now 45 points higher than any other batter in the International league. Scales also ranks second with a .444 (16-36) average and third with a .722 slugging percentage. The veteran has walked nine times and only struck out once in 47 plate appearances.

LUTZ GO HERD: INFZACH LUTZ picked up his third multi-hit performance of the homestand last night (2-3, 2B). He has hit .417 (10-24) with two homers and five RBI since the Bisons returned to Coca-Cola Field. He drew four walks in the only game he didn’t get a hit this homestand (4/15 vs. PAW).

BISONS BITS: RHPJACK EGBERT has allowed just two hits in eight innings this season. He’s retired the last 13 batters he’s faced out of the bullpen...CLUCAS MAY is the first Bisons’ catcher to triple since C JOSH THOLE tripled on May 9, 2010 in Indianapolis...The Bisons are 4-3 this year when their opponent scores first and only 2-4 when they are the first on the scoreboard.

METS UPDATE: The Mets (7-4) fell down early and couldn’t recover in a 9-3 defeat in Atlanta last night. The Braves scored the first six runs of the contest. Former Bisons OF KIRK NIEUWENHUIS had two hits and is hitting .321 in his first major league stint. He’s schedule to lead off for the Mets’ 12:10 p.m. matinee in Atlanta today.
