D1 Game Notes –  Andrew Heaney, CJ Hinojosa, Courtney Hawkins

·        Top Pitcher -  Andrew Heaney, lhp, Oklahoma State - In the BBCOR era, pitching rules, and there is no shortage of worthy candidates for this award. This year, there is no Stephen Strasburg or David Price or Trevor Bauer whose performance has clearly separated him from the rest of the pack. You could make a fine case for South Carolina's Michael Roth, Arkansas' Ryne Stanek or Rice's Matthew Reckling, who join Heaney as starting pitchers on our Midseason All-America team. You could make similarly compelling cases for Stanford's Brett Mooneyham, Arizona State's Brady Rodgers, LSU's Kevin Gausman, Mississippi State's Chris Stratton, Duke's Marcus Stroman, Mississippi's Bobby Wahl, San Francisco's Kyle Zimmer and others. ·        Clemson's Richie Shaffer Earns ACC Baseball Player of the Week

·        Solon (Ohio) LHP Matt Smoral will have surgery on 4th metatarsal of his right foot. 12-14 week recovery

·        Max Fried‏ - @MaxFried  - I'm proud to call him one of my best friends @LGio27

·        CJ HINOJOSA INJURY  Superstar Infielder out of Spring, Texas, CJ Hinojosa injured his shoulder and is out until June-July which will most likely hurt his draft stock. He had already planned to attend Texas early, but there was a mix-up with credits so he went back to high school to graduate, and will most likely be attending the University of Texas next year. Not to worry though, he’ll be a first-rounder out of college if he can stay healthy without a doubt in my mind. - draft

·        The best player on one of the best teams in the country, Courtney Hawkins had already emerged as a player with first-round potential heading into the NHSI, but his performance at the super-team tournament all but sealed his fate as a likely first-round selection. He dazzled both on the mound and at the plate in the team’s only victory. As the game’s starter, he tossed 5.1 innings of shutout ball and struck out nine batters. According to Baseball America, he was clocked in the low 90s and as high as 94 mph. He complemented his go-to pitch with a slider that looked devastating. At the plate he was also a force. He slugged a solo home run that proved to be the game’s only run. The shot reportedly cleared the wall in left-center and traveled approximately 400 feet. He also showed off a rocket arm in the outfield and impressive wheels on the basepaths link

·        Speed Checks:

o   Ty Buttrey  92-93, 78-79 CB

·        Stat Lines:
