Mets Win 6-1

The New York Mets (7-3) defeated the Atlanta Braves (5-5) by a score of 6-1.

Dillon Gee started the game for the Mets and allowed only 1 run in 7 innings. Coming into the game, Gee`s ERA was 5.06. After his stellar performance tonight, he lowered his ERA to 2.92.

The Mets were initially losing 1-0, but eventually tied the game at 1 in the 3rd inning thanks to an RBI groundout from Ruben Tejada.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jack Wilson would hit Dillon Gee`s pitch to deep left field, but only to be robbed of a homerun by Jason Bay.

The score would remain the same until the 6th inning when Ruben Tejada hit a 1 out double. He would later advance to 3rd base with 2 outs. Tommy Hanson would later intentionally walk David Wright to face Ike Davis with 2 runners on and 2 out.

Ike Davis would see 5 straight curveballs from Hanson. Davis would hit the 5th curveball for a 3-run homer putting the Mets on top 4-1 in the 6th inning. It was Davis` 2nd homerun of the year. He has now hit one homerun in each of his last 2 games.

In the 7th inning, Josh Thole would hit a infield single with one out. Kirk Nieuwenhuis would follow with a single of his own. Dillon Gee effectively lays down a sacrifice bunt advancing Thole to third and Nieuwenhuis to second. Tommy Hanson, pitching to Ruben Tejada, would give up a wild pitch, costing the Braves a run and putting the Mets up 5-1. Tejada would later end the inning with a flyout.

Jon Rauch gets out of trouble in the 8th inning, giving up 1 hit but no runs.Boy did he look good!

Jason Bay caps off his brilliant performance on the field with a leadoff homerun in the 9th inning on a 1-0 count off Ex-Met Livan Hernandez. This would put the Mets on top 6-1.

Tim Byrdak comes in to pitch the ninth and shuts the door on the Braves with a 1-2-3 inning.


This was a great win for the Mets today. Anyone remember the last time the Mets took four straight from the Braves? Pitching is the name of the game, and Dillon Gee gave plenty of it today. The turning point of this game was Ike turning on Hanson's curve ball. The three run HR set the tone for the rest of the game. But today was Jason Bay's day. Bay pulled out his inner Endy and robbed Jack Wilson of a home run. This highlight play seemed to give Bay more confidence, and it was seen when he blasted a home run to center. It was good to see Bay have a good day, and Davis climbing out of his funk. This team is on a roll right now, and we can only look forward to the ace taking mound tomorrow.
