Remember That Guy? The Forgotten Mets A-Z
Pumpsie Green-
Known as the first black player for the Boston Red Sox..the last team in the majors to integrate. He spent most of his five year career, as a second baseman/pinch hitter. He retired as a Met in 1963, after 17 games in the blue and orange. After a series with the Yankees in 1962, Pumpsie and P Gene Conley disapeared after getting off the team bus in the Bronx. They were found three days later, at the Idlewild Airport boarding a plane for Isreal. Must have been a wild weekend...
Phillip Humber-
In 2008, Phillip Humber was the key piece in the trade that brought Johan Santana to the Mets. When I read the news the next morning, I thought there had to be some sort of catch..The Mets get the best pitcher in the world, and don't even give up their best prospect? As it turned out, the Mets likely would have been better off shipping F-Mart to the Twins instead of Humber. Although he washed out with the Twins and later the Royals, Humber seemed to figure it out in 2011, starting 26 times for the White Sox with an ERA under 4.00.
