How many times have you stood in the
middle of the fairway at the 150 market and you silently prayed to ‘hit the
green’ with your next shot? That was the degree of control you were
seeking, just like 998 others of the 1000 that have stood there.
But, it is the one out of a 1000 that
hones his game to the point that simply hitting the green doesn’t define
success. No, he must be a short put away when he’d done with this shot.
That is the degree of control needed to make it to the pros as a pitcher
-Next up looks to be RP D.J. Carrasco. My guess is hasta la vista Manny.
AAA-Buffalo:
It does look like D.J. Carrasco will be the next relief pitcher to be
added in Queens; however, we also need to keep an eye on 30-yr. old RHP Fernando Cabrera.
Cabrera is putting up some sick
numbers: 9-G, 10.1-IP, 0.87, 0.97… though there could be some improvement on
his 4-BB, 4-K totals. The important thing is he has only given up a total of
one run and six hits.
Cabrera’s ‘been around’. He was a 10th
rounder in 1999 for Cleveland, who he pitched for parts of eight seasons. Was a
fan favorite in Buffalo when they were affiliated with the Indians. Has pitched
part of seven seasons in ‘the Bigs’ with a stat line of 132-G, 5.24, 1.53,
175-IP, 193-K.
Matt Harvey started on Wednesday night. He consistently throws his fastball in the 94
range now… also, went into the game HITTING .429 for the season… he got his 4th
RBI of the season by towering a 400 foot sacrifice fly… the rain delay killed
any chance of Harvey getting the win… 68/36 (ratio needs vast
improvement before any consideration for Queens)
Justin Hampson (1.80) followed Harvey and shut down Syracuse.
Fernando Cabrera (0.79) got his 6th save.
Rob Johnson (.214) came off the DL and started behind the plate… it was obvious that
he was thrilled to be back…tripled and singled in his first two at-bats…
I really feel sorry for Josh Satin… the guy gets promoted Queens and now he
can’t even get back in the lineup.
And please try to explain to me why Jordany Valdespin is sitting on the bench in Queen?
Oswaldo Navarro played first base… and had two hits.
2B Reese
Havens singled in CF Matt den Dekker,
something I may write 100 times more over the next 6-7 years…
SP Mark
Cohoon (2.48) was okay. The problem is this organization has some deep
talent in starters right now and good isn’t going to be good enough to keep
climbing up the ladder. 3-R in 5-IP, and only 3-K. Okay.
Wilmer Flores' .193 ISO is the highest of all Florida State League hitters that are 20
years old or younger…
An 11-hit attack in a day-game win
against Jupiter… RF Cory Vaughn still sizzling,
2-2, .386-OBP… CF Cesar Puello has very quietly
raised his BA to .293…
Pitching wise, Adam Kolarek just keeps dealing up goose eggs… another
1.1-IP added to his 0.00 ERA…
Starter Eric Goeddel – 5.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 5-K…but also 5-BB… 0.75
Starter Eric Goeddel – 5.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 5-K…but also 5-BB… 0.75
Adrian Rosario’s (1.26) sixth save.
Alex Panteliodis pitched on Wednesday… and he’s
making this look to easy: 6.0-IP, 2-H, 0-R, 5-K, 0.68 for the season. He won’t
be here after the all-star break.
C Albert
Cordero (.170) singled in 1B Brian Harrison.
What happened to Cordero? Wasn’t he an almost prospect? He hit .286 last year
in 385-AB with the Gnats and it sure looked like he had earned himself a trip
to Lucie. Instead, he’s back in Savannah and obviously in a funk over it.
CF Travis
Taijeron continued to go yard, launching his 7th of the
season.
Okay, enough is enough. It's time to get Vaughn to AA and see what he can do there. He just might be able to be the RH bat to replace Bay. Cory has nothing left to prove in PSL.
ReplyDeleteVaughn left Savannah last year just before the all-star break.
ReplyDeleteHe looks ready.
Hey Mack, any idea how long the mets plan on keeping Reese at AA? I know his injury profile is a concern but he has almost 300 ABs. Since its his health thats the issue and not his ability to hit AA pitching they might as well move him up after just a few games.
ReplyDeleteCory definitely seems ready.
Actually, Havens is "ready" for Queens...
ReplyDeleteThe problem is his bad history on injuries and a history of lower back problems.
I had lower back surgery after 30 years of putting up with it. I played all kind of sports through the pain but nowhere near that level.
I'm a big Havens fan, but I don't see him getting the starting job in Queens at second. Bad backs never heal.
But, if he stays healthy, he still will probably stay in Binghamton due to the fact that he's blocked by the International League' top hitter, Bobby Scales.
He'll be in Queens in September.
