5-29-12 - Daily Mets Minors Report

Date: 5-29-12

Mets:

Manny Acosta was designated for assignment.

The Yankees claimed Ryota Igarashi

R.A. Dickey is the National League Player of the week

Ex-Met Adam O’Neil checked in with his continuing battle to stay healthy:

Hi Mack, Adam wrote: "Went down with a knee problem 3 weeks ago. Thought it was a meniscus tear but MRI came back with meniscus tear and a growth defect of me femoral condyle. Having an allograft surgery I think it's called. Bone is dead and won’t heal so they have to go in and remove it and place the material in. Not 100% whether I'm having surgery tomorrow. But it does need to be fixed and will be out another 12 months. Tough to swallow a month away from being 12 months post op on TJ. "

 Lasto

He hasn’t been doing much better in Japan. He apparently isn’t enamored with Japanese noodles and rice and he was fined 100,000 yen ($1,200) for arguing with an umpire. Through Tuesday, he is batting .240 with 6 home runs and 17 runs batted in, hardly the power surge the Swallows hoped for. On Sunday night, he went 0-3 in a 4-1 loss. His highlights included an inning-ending double play, a fly ball to the warning track and getting hit by a pitch.

Mark Healey –

I think it's possible to be happy about the Mets' start so far, and still wonder why they are addressing needs Wal-Mart style
If the Mets were able to add another starter, a solid RP and a versatile IF, no reason they couldn't win the 84-88 games I predicted they'd win

Adam Rubin

The Mets conducted a late-day workout for prospective draft picks at Citi Field on Monday. Several Mets executives were on hand, including Paul DePodesta. The list of amateurs working out included Ole Miss signee Stryker Trahan, he tweeted. Trahan, from Lafayette, La., is considered the top catching prospect out of high school.

172 days (of 183) at MLB level constitutes full year of service time. But ... any option to the minors for less than 20 days and return to majors reverts to all major league service days. So, in essence, for Mets to delay Kirk Nieuwenhuis getting free agency from after 2017 season to after 2018, he would need to go to minors for 20 days

Mack – I hate to remain a purist here, but the full potential of Kirk Nieuwenhuis will never be reached if you deny this kid from hitting lefties on an every day basis…

Q - When is the earliest Chris Young would be available ?
Rubin - Thursday for Buffalo. Heard likely at least 1 more after that in AAA

AAA-Buffalo:

OF Fred Lewis -  2 weeks. 18-53 (.340) 2HR, 7RBI, scoring 13 runs

1B Josh Satin (.273) singles in CF Corey Wimberly (.327) in the first inning. You just know that Satin will finish the season .300+. JOSH!!!!  GO TO JAPAN AND MAKE THE BIG YEN!!!!

            RP Pedro Beato continued his rehab… 1.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 2-K, 1-BB, 4.50

AA-Binghamton:

Rylan Sandoval transferred from St. Lucie to Binghamton

Josh Rodriguez (.285) played SS on Tuesday. That’s his third infield position this week.

Collin McHugh‏ -

Never let anyone tell you minor league life is easy. It isn't. It never will be.

Rained out…

A+ - St. Lucie: -

Boy, this is a great minor league lineup…

Lucy came out swinging. A double by CF Darrell Cecilliani (.333), and a single by 3B Wilmer Flores (.315) scored two runs in the first.

RF Cory Vaughn (.232) doubled in three runs in the 4th

Ya know, it’s no big secret amongst the pundits-in-the-know (PITK) that Wilfredo Tovar is the best defensive infielder in the system (Sean Kazmar is a close second). Now, the 20-year old gets two hits in his first two at bats and is close to cracking .300 for the season.  Top defense… 20-yrs. Old… .300… I’m just saying…

SP Cory Mazzoni had two un-quality starts going into this game (7-ER in 10.0-IP), and he was determined not to put up a hat trick…

For the hell of it, Flores tacked on his 9th HR in the 8th

Another quality relief appearance for both Kyle Allen (2.25)  and Ryan Fraser (2.00)…

A – Savannah:

INF Ismael Tijerina transferred to Savannah

Nice pitching duel between Domingo Tapia and Madison Younginer

The Gnats took the lead in the 5th on run scoring singles by CF Travis Taijeron (.291) and 3B Aderlin Rodriguez (.247)… A-Rod was hitting .300 in his last 10 games coming into this game…

The Gnats piled it on with home runs by Taijeron (10th), RF Charlie Thurber (2nd) and T.J. Rivera (7th)…

1B Cole Frenzel - .118

Jeffrey Walters continues to excel out of the pen… ERA: 1.19

A – Brooklyn:

Season starts June 18

Rookie – Kingsport:

Season starts June 19th

DSL Mets:

Season starts June 2nd.

  4. Love reading the Minor league reports daily Mack. We got real talent in A and AA in addition to Harvey in AAA. It's coming. Alderson and his boys are righting the ship and giving us hope. Need your country ribs recipe with the secret sauce but that's for another day.
