Life is short, and quality of life is
even shorter. Sports stars start special in grade school and continue on until
the foundation gives out and they must find a purpose elsewhere. Some, like Magic Johnson, flourish. Others, like Junior Seau, don’t.
Mr. Rivera needs to heal and return
for a proper exit. He’s the best there ever was at what he does and the video
on ESPN should not be the last one we ever see of him.
C Rob Johnson
has raised his BA around 100 points in the past few weeks. Johnson was a
4th rounder in 2004 by Seattle, who he played seven seasons for.
He’s playing at 33-yrs old and has a career .193 major league average over five
years. An excellent defensive catcher with very little pop.Was the opening day
catcher for Seattle in 2009.

AA-Binghamton:
We need to take a deeper look at
20-year old 3B Jefry Marte.
His stat line this season is
impressive: .321/.378/.420/.798… yes, he has only 6-BB, but he also has only
12-K in 81-AB. He’s hitting .476 against lefties, but holing his own at .267
against righties. And all this and hitting only .143 so far in May.
The real good news is only two errors
in the field. This is an incredible improvement on other years in the
organization and my Mack hat is tipped to him and whoever has been working with
him.
Now, the future… third base is pretty
full right now. David Wright is in Queens, Zach Lutz is in Buffalo, and Wilmer
Flores is right behind Jefry in Florida
We all know too much about this kid
because of the amount of work done by Mets minor league blogger. Before the
internet, he would just be some kid hitting well somewhere. Now, we all know
the blood type of these guys.
But, call up a team and tell then you
have a 20-year old third baseman hitting in the top 10 of a AA league… and… he
only has two errors… and… he’s available.

Germen was promoted from St. Lucie to fill the slot opened when Zack Wheeler was placed on the 15-day DL. Harrisburg
welcomed him to AA ball by scoring five runs in the second inning…

Centeno continues to hit… he went 3-3 and raised his BA to .317.

We talk so much about the success in
the organization. Let’s go in the other direction and discuss St. Lucie
catching.
Frankie Pena (.184) and Blake Forsythe (.174) share the
duties. They have combined for 17 hits this season.
Both received decent signing money
and both were thought of as the future starter in Queens. Now, they can’t even
get out of a platoon in A+ ball.
It’s so hard to find a great catcher
in baseball. High school coaches are talking kids out of putting on the
equipment. Why crouch until the knees so south when you can stand on first base
or DH?
We had a great catcher in high school
here in South Carolina a couple of years ago. 6-3 who could throw a ball to
second base 90+. Yup, you guessed it. He became a pitcher in his junior year.
And the best to come out of high
school in 20-years now plays in the Washington Nationals’ outfield.

Brooklyn he had 26 strikeouts in 12.2 innings pitched.
That’s a combined 50 strikeouts in
27.2 innings pitched.

The Gnats got out of the gate early
with four runs in the first… it included
a two-run double by LF Dustin Lawley… Tyler Pill was masterful: 6.0-IP, 0-R, 8-K, 1.65…
Jack Leathersich is just sick… ERA hit a low of 0.53… WTF!
