RHP Michael Fulmer will make his fifth start of the year for the Gnats
tonight. He is looking to bounce back from his shortest outing of the year, 3.2 innings when he
gave up a season-high four runs, all earned last Saturday in the Gnats’ 5-4 loss in 11 innings in
Lexington. The Mets picked Fulmer in the supplemental first round, 44
th overall, in 2011 out of Deer Creek (Ok) HS. Fulmer made four professional appearances, including three starts, for
the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Mets in 2011. In 5.1 innings, he gave up seven runs, six
earned, on nine hits and four walks while recording 10 strikeouts. Fulmer is ranked highly
among Mets prospects: both Baseball America and MLB.com ranked him #8 in the Mets’
system, while Baseball Prospectus slotted him in at #10 prospect in the Mets system, and
Metsminorleagueblog.com ranked him #11. Fulmer was the third high school pitcher out of
Oklahoma drafted in 2011, after Dylan Bundy (#4 - BAL) and Archie Bradley (#7 – AZ). The
Gnats are 1-3 when Fulmer starts and have supported him with just 2.75 runs per game (11
runs/4 starts), the lowest run support of any Savannah starter.
