Jim Callis/BA now projects that Tampa Bay will pick LSU
RHP Kevin Gausman with the #1 overall pick in
the draft
David Rawnsley/Perfect Game also feels there is a good chance
that Gausman goes number one.

Every team in baseball seems
to get it now… you want to win, be deep in pitching. The game gets so much
easier to play if you have 3-4 quality starters in your rotation and teams are
trading their pitching prospects less and less. It may take years before you see a Zack Wheeler traded again.
Even the ballparks are being
built for the starters now. Can you imagine Albert
Pujois in Ebbets Field (actually, so far this
season, you can)?
I love Byron Buxton and Mike Zunino is
no slouch either, but my guess right now, this minute, is that college tested Kevin Gausman gets the nod as the first pick. He can
finish the season at the A+ level, play AA/AAA in 2013, and literally be ready
to enter the rotation on opening day 2014.
My current top-5 would also
include pitchers Mark Appel and Lucas Giolito. Gio will throw his first toss sometime
today and everyone will have forgotton about his hiccup long before the draft
starts.
These are your elite-5
players in the draft and no one will pass if their name is still on the board.
Hey Mack, ask Rich Giolito to have Lucas go easy when he throws...anything to have the kid slide to #12
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing the other day... :)
actually, YOU just did....
ReplyDeletehe reads MMs every day.
I'll tell him.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate the picture of the 1940's women's league. Little known fact: my wife Lindsay was originally cast in League of their Own and had to leave the film when her television pilot was picked up by the Network. She was replaced by Madonna. Now you know where Luc's baseball talent comes from!
ReplyDeleteLindsay is also a huge Met's fan. Favorite player, Keith Hernandez. I grew up in Queens & have followed the team since the 60's. My favorites: Cleon Jones,, Ed Kranepool, Tom Seaver, Keith & of course Mookie. Go Mets!
Rick:
ReplyDeleteIt's a crying shame that Luc won't be around at #12. Your whole family is such a perfect fit.
I would normally tell you to tell your son something abut rehab, but having you around lets baseball purists like me know that the kid is going down the right path.
One question... where's the draft party going to be and can I come? :)
Mack
Draft? Haha. June 4th happens to be my wife's B-day. We'll definitely be celebrating that! Should be quite a day!
