Fisher Cats Overpower B-Mets, 9-3



BINGHAMTON,NY – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats pounded out 14 hits, including sevenextra-base hits, to defeat the Binghamton Mets 9-3 Friday night at NYSEGStadium. Brad Glenn and Brian Van Kirk provided home runs to power the FisherCats offense.

Forthe third time this season, the Fisher Cats bats were alive against B-Metsstarter Darin Gorski. They grabbed the lead against the lefty in the secondwith an RBI single from Brad McElroy.

TheB-Mets briefly tied the game in the third against New Hampshire starter JoelCarreno. Kai Gronauer ripped a 1-2 pitch over the left field fence for hisfirst home run of the season.

Itwas the only blemish for Carreno (1-1) in his third start with the Fisher Catssince being optioned from the Toronto Blue Jays earlier in the month. Therighty struck out seven and allowed just two hits over five innings in the win.

BradGlenn countered for the Fisher Cats with a solo home run of his own in thefourth. Brian Van Kirk added a two-run shot against Gorski in the fifth. It wasthe second time in as many games that Gorski has allowed two home runs. Adouble by Brian Bocock chased the southpaw from the game. Gorski (2-3) wastagged for four runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings in the losing effort.

Afterthe Fisher Cats extended their lead to 5-1 with a run against Kevin Mulvey inthe sixth, Jefry Marte supplied an RBI groundout in the bottom of the inningagainst reliever Scott Gracey. Yet again, New Hampshire responded with a run asGlenn provided a sacrifice fly against Armando Rodriguez in the top of theseventh.

JoshRodriguez singled home Matt den Dekker in the eighth to cut the deficit tothree, but it was as close as the B-Mets would get. The Fisher Cats scoredthree runs on four hits in the ninth against Brad Holt to put the game out ofreach. Aaron Loup worked around a lead-off single to post a scoreless ninth tocap the win.

TheB-Mets (22-24) continue their four-game series against the New Hampshire FisherCats Saturday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Greg Peavey takes the mound against LHPBrett Cecil. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show begins at 6:50 PMon Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
