SAND GNATS’ TJ RIVERA RECEIVES SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR
Savannah, GA –Savannah Sand Gnats infielder, TJ Rivera, was named the South Atlantic League (SAL)Player of the week for the week of April 23-29, 2012. Rivera’s stats for thispast week were as follows: .429 AVG /.467 OBP/ .786 SLG. Rivera playedin six games, going 12-for-28 with a double, three home runs, 11 RBI, five runsscored and three stolen bases.
Rivera is currently batting .389 and is third on the SALbatting leader board, through 4/30/12.
A native of Bronx, New York, Rivera wassigned as a non-drafted free agent in 2011. Rivera split time in 2011 betweenKingsport (R) and Brooklyn (Short-Season A), with a combined batting average of.301 in 42 games played.
“It’sgreat to look atop the leader board and see TJ in the top three,” said JohnKatz, Sand Gnats team president. “We’ve become used to seeing our pitchers upthere, but we’re excited to see this team doing it with their bats, too.”
The Sand Gnats return home tonight for aseven-game homestand as they take on Delmarva (MD) (5/2 – 5/5) and Lakewood(NJ) (5/5 – 5/8).
