Who's Hot, Who's Not- Pitching Blues Edition

Well that was a disappointing road trip. After being ahead 6-2 in Colorado during game 1, Schwinny and the LOLpen gave up 16!! runs in the next 2 innings. The team redeemed itself by winning the next two, despite the LOLpen blowing 2 leads in Game 3, but then they went to Houston and continued to pitch poorly and got swept by the "no-name" Astros. All in all the 2-4 road trip should have been far better. The Amazin's will be heading home to play 3 games against the D'backs before heading out to Philly for another road trip so we'll combine the 3 home games with the 6 road games for our next Hot/Cold session.

Who's Hot

  • David Wright- .476 AVG, 4 RBI, 2 2B, 3B, 3-4 SBA, 6 BB's
    • The guy just keeps hitting and hitting and hitting. Wright was on base in almost 60% of his plate appearances as his BB rate continues to be higher than his K rate. He's also starting to use his legs more with 3 SB's this week. If it wasn't for a certain unbelievably hot player in Los Angeles (Matt Kemp .412 AVG), Wright (.392 AVG) would be the league leader in AVG right now.
  • Ruben Tejeda- .464 AVG, 2 2B's
    • After starting hot, and then cooling off, Tejeda is red-hot once again. the doubles machine (11) has moved back into second place for the league lead in that category (1 behind Joey Votto- 12). The lead-off spot really is a toss up between him and Kirk. Tejeda's OBA is .351 when leading off an inning and Kirk Nieuwenheis's is .358. Pick your poison opponents.
  • Scott Hairston- .348 AVG, HR, 6 RBI, 2 2B's, 3B, Cycle
    • Hey anytime you hit for the cycle you deserve to be on this Hot List. With the increased playing time he's been getting lately, due to Bay going down and then Duda with the flu, Hairston drove guys in left and right. However dont get too excited cause he's going right back to the bench once Duda recovers. Duda was having a great trip before he got sick.

Who's Not
  • Manny Acosta- 2 Losses, 3.2 IP, 30.94 ERA, 4.688 WHIP
    • The stat line above says it all. "Acostalypse" was absolutely terrible on this road trip and it couldnt have happened at a worse time. With DJ Carrasco finishing up his rehab assignment in Buffalo this weekend, Acosta's in a really hot seat. .
  • Chris Schwinden- 1 Loss, 8 IP, 11.25 ERA, 2.000 WHIP
    • Schwinden has had the golden opportunity of securing a rotation spot with Pelfrey now out for the season, however, he's gone out thrown back to back stinkers to start the season. The combination of him and Acosta gave up a whopping 22 runs this week. Its unclear whether or not he's going to get another start now that Jeremy Hefner is eligible to come back to the MLB.
  • Jordany Valdespin- 2 AB's, 0 Hits
    • Valdespin is technically not cold but he is apparently frozen to the bench. Why is he up here if he's not going to play? He should have been the starter instead of Turner when they rested Murphy but I guess not. Send him back to AAA so he can get AB's and bring up Josh Satin to take his place.

  1. Is "2 AB, O-H" cold... or dead?

  2. Mack,

Keep up the good work. Read it often.
Was excited about the Mets in April but as the calendar turns I realize their depth and talent is way short. They look they play hard for Collins and have heart but I expected them to fade and end up near the bottom of the division.
Promise though coming from minors next few years and beyond. Their farm teams actually have winning records... Not used to seeing that

  3. Mack,

I have him in the cold section because he's getting no work...this is quickly becoming an awful move for management. Valdespin should be getting work in CF for Buffalo right now. Not glued to the bench at the MLB level

    Yeah, I was kidding...

Either Josh Satin or Vinnie Rottino play the same amount of positions as 'Spin' who would be best served in Buffalo

Yes,TC has brought a complete lack of humidity in the clubhouse.
