It was an amazing
night. Seasons are made by events like this. I don’t know what direction this
team is going for the remainder of this year, but it’s obvious these
ballplayers love playing with each other.
It’s becoming fun to be a Mets fan again.
Ironically, it was also
cut day with around a dozen minor leaguers being given their walking papers.
Among them:
C Dock Doyle – was on 50-game suspension
Belguin-born OF Thomas DeWolf - .179 for the GCL Mets in 2011
OF Ariel Mercedes - .240 for the GCL Mets
P Robert Lake - 0-0, 5.61 in 2011 for GCL/K-Port

Mets:
Ben Yoel reported that the Astros are calling
up Fernando Martinez. He has a .319 8HR 38RBI
line in 51 games this season at AAA. There was a time that I was so frustrated
by this guy, but that was when the Mets paid his paycheck. Now, I just wish him
good health and success at the game. It’s still hard to believe the Mets just
cut him, but that seems to be the way these guys do their business. I mean, Chris Schwinden will back me up on this.
AAA – Buffalo:
We’ll keep an eye out
tonight to see if Josh Satin is pulled early.
Also, Raul Reyes is NOT in the lineup, so he
could be the guy to replace Mike Baxter.
CF Matt Tuiasosopo (.287) doubled in RF Val Pascucchi (.262) in the 6th and tied up
the game in the 7th on an error.
A big positive tonight
is two more scoreless innings from Pedro Beato.
This should do it for his rehabbing (1.59) and I would expect him on a direct
to LaGuardia in the morning.
AA-Binghamton:
Travis Ozga (.172) playing first base while Eric Campbell (.308) DHs tonight.
The B-Mets broke the
ice in the 3rd on CF Matt den Dekker’s (.300)
8th home run of the season. They went on to score four more in 4th,
all coming from the bottom of the lineup.
Darin Gorski had another spotty outing tonight:
6.1-IP, 4-H, 3-R, 4.59. He’s had only three quality starts in the last 10.
Another pitcher bites the AA dust.
2B Reese Havens – 0-3, .154.
A+ - St. Lucie: -
I received a
confirmation from the Mets that CF Darrell Cecilliani did
re-aggravate the hammy he pulled going back to the beginning of 2011 in
Savannah. He reinjured earlier this year during a walk-off celebration at home
and this time it came after three at bats on a ground out. It’s obvious that DC
keeps getting back in the lineup too early and I suggest they sit him down
until either winter ball or next spring. (update – DC
was placed on the DL).
Jason Bay DH’d for Lucy tonight. 0-3... no Bay
second game… poor baby.
First game starts off
with doubles by Francisco Pena (.257) and Robbie Shields (.254) in the second inning. It was a fast game, dominated by SP Angel
Cuan (6.0-IP, 0-R, 3-H, 4-K, 0-BB, 2.40). Adam Kolarek (1.73)
with his 8th save.
In the 2nd
game, SP Eric Goeddel struggled through his most
testy outing of the season – 3.0-IP, 9-H, 3-ER, 2-K, 1-BB, 2.00. Goeddel has
been a breath of fresh air this season, so, we’ll give him this one. Remember
what Dillon Gee told me – “For every 10 starts,
two are great, two suck, and the others you just work through…” Lucy walked
away in the 7th when Corey Vaughn scored
from second on an error.
The St. Lucie Mets
clinched the first half of the season championship about a gazillion days
before the end of the half-season.
A – Savannah:
1B-3B-OF Brian Harrison (.268) returns from the DL and was back
in the lineup, hitting 6th.
A fantastic pitching
duel between Greesboro’s Charlie Lowell (4.67)
and Jacob deGrom (1.85).
The Sand Gnats scored
first in the 6th on 3B Aderlin Rodriguez’ (.251) 9th home run of the season. His
last 10 games now are: .286/.381/.686/1.067, 4-HR,
8-RBI

up with a 7-3 loss to the Nationals.

lost their opener, 8-7, to the Red Sox.
